new today

Hello,
I just found your site today. I am here because i am the grandmother of a 13 year old boy with Tourette's Syndrome and I am considering homeschooling him over the coming school year. I'm looking for information about teaching, learning, and supplements to help ease his tics and OCD symptoms. I look very forward to connecting with others who are and have learned to work within these challenges.
I really am glad to have found this site and hope to learn from all of you and share with you too.
thanks.....Lin/misphitt

Hi Lin and welcome

our TS forum is here:
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum25.html

you'll see a sticky thread there too on some of the things we did to help my son who has TS & OCD
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread1145.html

the Tourette Syndrome Association has some helpful info, booklets etc on education . TS is now legally classified "other health impaired" under the US education act re Americans with Disability so many accommodations are available as well
here is the TSA website http://www.tsa-usa.org

all the best to you and your grandson. I hope to see you on the TS forum here too :)

Response to misfitt - whose handle I love!

Lin, I had tics at about your son's age for about 2 years and simply outgrew them. Mine mostly included facial tics such as eye blinking, nose twitching and others that I cannot recall. It was a constant source of comment among my peers, but I couldn't it. Finally, it just stopped. Take advantage of information provided by peers above. I know they can help. I don't know how to make pretty pictures; lucky to type. But don't give up and WELCOME TO NEUROTALK. You have found the right place. Long blue button with arrow at bottom right of most pages changes font, and you will find the tic board. misfitt also - billie
