Cogane : Possible breakthrough for Huntington’s disease sufferers

Cogane is already in tests involving both healthy volunteers and patients as a new treatment for Parkinson’s disease.

Any news of it?

I just don't which of these press releases are noteworthy. Are thy talking about it on pdonlineresearch? I remember meeting this couple [phytopharm] at BIO , they were trying to get funding. They had an appt with MJFF , which we recommended, and they already had one. More than two years ago. Something should be happening...

So Debi or someone from the UK? can someone please update cogane?

thank you,
paula

This is the latest update on Cogaane from the PDpipeline database --

"A phase I safety study was completed successfully in 2003.

A grant from the Michael J Fox Foundation in 2008 will fund additional preclinical research to determine the optimal dosing requirements and duration of treatment for Cogane, and will help "gain essential information on the appropriate dosing and design for a Phase II clinical study in Parkinson’s disease patients. "

In May 2008 company stated on an earnings conference call, Phase II clinical trial could begin "towards the end of the year."

In April 2009, Phytopharm announced the commencement of a safety, tolerability and pharmacokinetic (PK) study of PYM50028 (Cogane), which will involve both healthy volunteers and patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD)."

The new phase I study is recruiting participants in the UK, according to the clinicaltrials.gov record.

I think Tom and the Cure Parkinsons Trust may know more about cogane.

Tom Isaacs is closely attached to Cogane ...

I believe.

As of July they were scheduled to be kicking off a 10 week trial. The purpose is stated as "to find out if Cogane is safe and well tolerated in both healthy volunteers and (PD) patients and to determine if there is any difference in the way that the body deals with Cogane between these two groups".

Jackmana, sorry I didn't answer your earlier question re. the trial. I was put on the reserve list and haven't been summoned. The reason was simple, I was accepted onto the trial however they had a large local response and given the amount of travel to Phytopharm in Cambridge, they were giving first priority to local people.

I guess living in Worcester you are not local. Thankfully they rang me to discuss this prior to my attending a screening visit so I didn't waste my time, a bit of a disappointment that they didn't extend the same courtesy to yourself (prior to rejecting you, probably for the same reason).

Neil.
