Somebody help!!!!!!!!!!!!

Long story so here I go....

I started to have some pretty intense lower back pain the last week of April 09 which felt like fire 30 seconds after sitting down and continuing till i got up. It then started hurting towards my right lower pelvic region. I went to the back doc (who had no answer) who referred me to a phys therapist who gave me a back brace (whice made it hurt even worse)! Saw Phys Medicine twice, internal med, GP, and a chiropractor twice with no luck, had an MRI of lower back and it showed nothing. Only pain killers that put me to sleep and dont work. All this time getting worse.

Finally a week ago I was @ California Adventure just standing there and my legs felt like they were going numb. Saw a Neurologist who said i had carpel tunnel. The next day both legs, feet and hands would go numb on and off. Finally yesterday I was going numb in both arms just below the elbow, feet, big toe, calf down to ankle, twitching in right index finger, right pinky felt like it had a rubber band tied around it and tingling (that lasted for 5-6 hours), pressure in my temples, and hot flashes in my face and neck, and occasional nausea.

I went to the ER and they diagnosed me with numbness. Huh ya think! Finally today, I was @ my desk typing and felt like my arms were 1000 pounds each. I have also noticed that I am very forgetful @ times. I can forget something in mid conversation, and I am noticing that some of my words are not being pronounced correctly. I am so scared, someone please help!!! Does this sound like Peripheral Neurapathy??

Hi

Is all this numbness just on one side, or both? Did the neuro order any tests? I'm no doc, and I'm sure not a PN expert. I usually lurk here! Can you go back to your PCP, or a different neuro? Or maybe an ortho who specializes in spines?

Good Luck

Both sides, but more so on the right with occasional flares on the left. You know it's exhausting being bounced from 1 doc to another, but i wont give up!Thanks for the advice.

My experience with this condition started with me waking up with my leg numb and when I tried to use it, it wouldn't work. I lost my balance and fell. Called my GP who stated that it was a neurological problem and sent me to a neurologist. My EMG/NCV showed PN, numbness, and lumbar radiculopathy. I'm still waiting to see a neurologist as the first one I saw just ignored it. I'm sorry I can't share anymore information with you. I know how tiring it is to be shuffled from doctor to doctor, but you need to find a neurologist who is willing to try to help you. Good luck and take care.

I agree that you need a new neuro that can run more tests. Do you have a major hospital or teaching hospital near you? Has your gp done a full set of bloodwork? If not I would also encourage that for things like auto immune,b12,blood sugar. Was the mri just of the lowe back and not the spine or does that cover both? What about of the brain? Hang in there and I hope you find someone who is willing to work with you.

You can find every test for PN at
www.lizajane.org
and see which bases your doc has.... or hasn't, covered.

this generalized, i would be thinking a systemic issue....with perhaps an overlay of ortho......B12 is a good place to start for the general stuff...the original back pain and pelvic pain, could they be kidney related? good luck

Karen
i would continue to go to your dr,,see if they can see you monday,,it doesnt sound too good,,,could be be nerve problems because your at your desk,,or could even be something like M.S..i forget alot in mid sentence too,,but i think mine iscoming from a toxicity of the liver,,,either way talk to your dr and even get a 2nd opition,,,,,,,,,bobber,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,good luck and keep us posted,,,,,p.s some times our meds can make us forgetfull too,,im more worried about the full body nerve issue

yes to all, I haver Kaiser Permanente which is pretty big, and they ran b12 (twice), sugar, and about 20-25 other different things. Everything came back normal.
A phys med doc gave me Nortriptaline on thursday for Fibromyalgia even though she said that I dont have any of the major symtoms (the tender spots) but just wanted to make sure. I am soooo tired of all this guessing and cost. I d get fired if I guessed how to do my job!
The MRI was just of the lower back because thats were my pain was initially. The day before is when the numbess in my legs started.
I keep telling these people that if they dont help me find out what this is soon, I will end up in a wheel chair!
Thank you so much for your advice.

To Karenreb

I agree wholeheartedly with all those who recommend going to another neurologist. Evidently, there are many out there who either are not aware of all the different things that can trigger PN. Some, like the one I was lucky enough to find, will go beyond their normal testing protocol in order to try something else that might be the culprit. As I posted earlier, my neurologist ran enough blood tests to realize that I needed to see a hemotologist who could do the necessary testing. He, after taking 6 vials of blood, plus a bone marrow biopsy, found that I have what is labeled Waldenstroms Syndrone. A fancy word for blood cancer.
Thanks to the good Lord, a relatively new drug, (6yrs) was developed that will kill the cancer cells. Along with bringing the cancer into manageable levels, the neuropathy will fade out. So I'm told. We'll see
The point is, don't give up. Go to another neuro for another opinion.
Good luck in your hunt.
