Marty

There are so many of these reports published that no-one really knows what to do for the best --- This report is mainly referring to heart patients. My Neurologist told me my vitamin E levels were low. I have been taking 800 units a day now for 18 months and find that my condition is improving. My vision and balance are both improved.
Practically every week there is a report published saying that some foodstuff or other can prevent or even cure Alzheimers.

I take these reports with a large pinch of salt -----Ooooooops my heart!!!
Incidently that report is dated 2004 --5 years ago

Marty, medical people always say supplements or vitamins do not help. The phamaceuticals say the same thing. Many of the studies are actiually funded by the Pharmaceuticals.

As a person gets older, his body doesn not absorb all the vitamins in food or create enough of the material that the supplements provide.

Prescription drugs asccount for more deaths than supplements and vitamins.

I have heard that before about Vitamin E. I think it depends on the individual. It did affect my aunt quite a few years ago. She thought some was good so she took more. Not a good idea. She ended up in the hospital.

I believe you need to be checked to see if you need more. JMO

If you want to hear the other side of the story, check out Life Extension's website. They have a section called "consumer alerts" which has two lengthy articles on this subject. Bottom line...the study is very flawed and from my point of view, irresponsible reporting.

Here's a link to one of LEF's rebuttals. (keep in mind when reading this, they are selling supplements. But they seem to be more balanced in their approach)

I think we all know that it takes more than one vitamin to maintain or improve health and as long as they focus on "single" nutrients in a study, they will always be able to discredit the use of it.

That article from 2004... is not accurate.

If you go to Linus Pauling Institute's website and search the Vit E info...they explain it well.
