Regarding the BT database error

Hello Doc John please forgive the intrusion.

I am aware of the current error everyone is getting and I am unable to do anything about it except contact John Lester. I do have very limited access to BrainTalks behind the scene area and sent out a mass email.

However most of us know that not everyone will get the email. So I came here to post and to ask those of you that post at both places please let your friends know what's going on.

I have no idea when/if John Lester will get around to fixing this error. It is a relatively easy error to fix, but I don't have the access to do so.

Well I for one will not hold my breath waiting for John L to fix it... Took him 8 weeks or so in 2006... and that is when he was more interested in BT.

Thanks for the info

Well I'll pass the word to my BT friends. At least we had the good sense to exchange emails & phone number's since the last big crash!:winky:

DocJohn 07-27-2009 07:33 PM

Thanks for the information, and I hope BT is fixed soon.

Well there is a bit of an update. The errors are still there and no posts can be made or read.

However if you're lucky you can clear your browsers cache, and delete the brain.hastypastry cookie, you can log in and send and receive pms.

So it's not as bad as the last crash (yet) :)

IE 7 I do not have IE 8 and don't know if they changed this :D

Click "Tools"
Click "internet options"
Click the "Delete" button in the Browsing History section under the General tab
Click the "Delete files" button (top one)
Click the "Delete history" button (3rd one from top)
Click the "Close" button

Next click the "Settings" button in the Browsing History section under the general tab
Click the "View files" button
Find the cookies (should be 2) for brain.hastypastry.net

Close IE, reopen IE, visit BT and hope :D

FireFox 3.0.12 (should be latest)

Click "Tools"
Click "Options"
Click the "Privacy" tab
Click the "Show cookies" button
Find and delete the hastypastry cookies
Close the box that shows your cookies
Click the "clear private data" button (same tab .. privacy)
Check "Browsing History" and "Cache"
Click ok
Click ok again

Close FF, reopen FF, visit BT and hope :D

Remember this will only allow you to send/receive pms (as of this posting) and not read or make new posts.

Thanks for posting Zombie Slayer, I hope the problems get fixed soon. Glad people can use the PM system at least. :)

Thank you ZombieSlayer and Doc John

Well, first, thank you Doc John for allowing posting of this sort of information ... once again. :)

ZombieSlayer, thank you for the update... and that WAS a good find indeed!

Did you send out another mass mail, regarding this PM option/instructions? (I didn't get one this time.) I think it would be good to do that... even if not all users get the email, at least a good bunch who only post only at BT would then know of this option to contact each other and exchange emails... we can use all the networking we can get at this point.

my two cents.

Thank you for YOUR dedication and continued support.

No I had not sent an email at the time of my last posting. However I just started sending out another one explaining the PM situation.

Included in that email was this info;

If I have not heard from Mr. Lester by Saturday I will be turning off BT. I do not want to risk further databse corruptions by keeping it online indefinitely. This means you won't be able to use the PM system until BT comes online again.

ZombieSlayer 07-30-2009 04:09 PM

I am happy to announce that BrainTalk is back online and repaired :)

No John didn't do squat, I don't even know if he is aware that there were any problems

David Hosobuchi had enough access to optimize and repair the tables :) So the site is live again, it's going to be slow for a bit since all of the cache's were deleted.

Once things get to running a bit quicker I will send out another mass email informing everyone that BT is back online.
