new girl
Hi all, just joined this evening and looking some advice. I have recently been diagnosed with discovertebral degeneration and disc herniation after years upon years of neck pain, lower back pain and significant arm pain not to mention headaches. I am 35 yrs old and my GP is very lax about referring me to see a consultant, also, my family dont seem to understand that even the easiest of tasks, like carry a bag gets too painful - any of your thoughts on what options I have and any tips for management of pain are more than welcome and will be appreciated.

Hello and Welcome to NT, DINO! I am so glad you have found us and hope you get the help and advice you need here! This forum has helped me a LOT so i'm sure it will help you too :) !
I'm so sorry to hear about everything that you are going through right now! I really hope you get the help and treatment you so desperately need and deserve real soon and you are in my thoughts and prayers!! I can relate to family not understanding a chronic pain condition! I am SO lucky that I have my mum supporting me - I don't know what i'd do without her as no one else in my family understands! I'm 14 and suffer from a chronic pain condition called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) in my left leg and both arms. I have tried all sorts of treatment options to try and help with it but none have worked so far unfortunately. My dad doesn't understand what I go through and refuses to go to the hospital with me for some reason - he has only been twice in the 2+ years that I have had CRPS! Here is a letter at NT written to people without a chronic pain condition and/or illness that may help you! I have given it to some of my family members and they do seem to have a better understanding - though some refuse to learn unfortunately! http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread470.html If you ever need anyone to talk to, please know that I am here for you because I DO understand how hard it is to deal with an illness !! Take care and I hope to see you around the forum more real soon!! Alison |
