howdy ho boys and girls.
i was recently (3 mos) diagnosed with myasthenia gravis. being an inquiring mind, i want to know all that i can about my disease. i'm 53, own/operate a small contracting business in so. cal..
i'm currently on mestinon and prednisone, pretty much the standard for treatment, with the usual side effects. i've been told by my neurologist that the steroids will be long term.

Love Your Name!

I'm 52, so same generation. No, I don't have MG, but you've come to a good place. Don't know much about computers either. Came here to learn about EST. Anyway, on most of the pages or boards of this group of forums, you will find a long, blue "Forum Jump" list at bottom right of page, with a arrow which will drop down menu of most of the conditions you can think of. I'm sure you will find yours or something very similar there. Welcome. :)

Hi Motorhead,

I see you posted on my noob thread, so I'm doing the same. We're about the same age, but looks like I was diagnosed a lot sooner. Within 1 month of ptosis and double vision. Neuro opthamalogist suspected it and had me get the blood test which showed positive for acr antibody. Just had CT scan which shows englarged/growth on thymus.

The neuro put me on Pred (40mg) and Mestinon (60mg 3 times/day) which have just about "cured" the eye problems, which is all I had. Have just been on them for a little over a week. No side effects so far, but I really hope he reduces the Pred before they start. The best part is being able to drive again. Couldn't do that for about 2 weeks without closing my right eye so I stayed off the road. Luckily I don't work so that was not an issue. Husband just had to chaffeur me around.

Hang in there. That's all we can do, right.
