Spondylolisthesis L5/S1
Hi,
Just wanted to ask if anyone has had spinal surgery for Grade II spondylolisthesis of the L5/S1 vertrebrea. I'd be interested in who performed your surgery....how invasive it was and if you had good results. I'm a 63 year old male but extremely active in phsycial activites and wonder what type of active lifestyle I will be limited to if I opt for surgery. I do have nerve compression with some dengeneration in the right calf. |

Hello pap5, and welcome to Neurotalk! This is such a nice place to come to, with lots of friendly, caring and helpful people. :) We're so glad you found us! :Head-Spin: Here are links for the Chronic Pain forum: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum10.html and the Spinal Disorders and Back Pain forum: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum22.html I had two disks in my neck that had calcified and had to be removed. The recovery wasn't great because they replaced the disks with bone harvested from my hip. My hip was where most of the pain was. Also, I had to wear a soft collar, and anything around my neck makes me gag. It wasn't a lot of fun. However after everything healed and the pain went away, my problems went away. I was having severe neck pain and the areas under my arms were numb. Best of luck to you! |
Yes, I had that same surgery
...the end of March. It went very well. Painful recovery for the first few week. Mostly because of the muscles they had to cut through. Long incision about 6 inches.
I just made sure I followed all the post op instructions. Because if you start lifting things too early it can reverse everything done. I wish I had done it sooner. I hope you have a successful surgery if you decide to have it done. |

The recovery is 4 to 6 months to heal completely. I am retired, but had I not been I would not have been allowed to go back to work for 5 to months. But your doctor may be different. I wish you the best. |
