breakthrough help

Hey there. It's Coleen in AZ. Been quite a while since I've posted. Good to see some old names that are familiar. I've had diluadid in my pump since 2005. Works well but not so well lately. In fact that's why I'm writing. For the last few weeks I've been in the 9s - you know what I mean. Mostly bed-ridden can't do much. For breakthru I've been taking oral dilaudid and neurontin but I've been having to double dose the dilaudid, to minor effect. OK so my question: Is there anything out there that would amplify my dilaudid? I was thinking dextromethorphan but I wanted to ask you guys first. Hoping you guys have some ideas for a revised pain cocktail- my worst is the afternoon.
Love,
Coleen

I just came back home to OK, from Chandler, AZ for a 3 week stay at my sister's home( she had surgery). AZ is a beautiful state, and my sister wants me and hubby to move there, family and medical reasons: as it is a dry heat(HOT is what I experienced,LOL), and the Fall, Winter, and Spring seasons are very pleasant. The monsoon season was kicking up and I experienced a severe pain flare from the high humidity in the air. I hope you have pain relief soon.

Hi Coleen, I'm an AZ resident too. Live in Scottsdale, Where is Clarksdale?
I'm glad you pain flare settled down. We have lived here 11 years-RSD 14 years-formerly Oregon. Do you have any anti-anxiety med in your pump or taken orally. My Dr. and I both feel my Lorazepam has been a very helpful med to keep my sympathetic nervous system as calm as possible. I work many natural ways to keep my system calm as possible too.
So glad to hear you are doing better. Did you go to the RSDSA annual meeting in Scottsdale this spring? I was there. 135 attended. Do you belong to any support groups? Take care, loretta

Clarkdale is a little town right next to Cottonwood. We are at the base of Mingus Mountain. We love it here. I have to go to Phx to get my pump refilled. Made an appt with my pain doc. He may want to discuss blocks which I haven't had in 10 years. Seems kind of pointless to me. What do you think? Lorazepam that's valium right? I take xanax to help with the pain. Not in the pump of course. No I don't get out much. I'm skittish of new people and crowds.

Hello Coleen,

Sorry your having trouble. I manage full body RSD and the challenges can be difficult at times. I agree with Loretta. Keeping the anxiety level under control during a flair is sooo important. The flair get our anxiety up and thus causes more pain. I take Ativan .5 mg twice a day. I just recently had a couple of blocks done to my low back. I feel great and I wish I had done them sooner.

I hope you find reflief soon!!
Take care,
Sherrie
