Default Hi Sandy,

I was watching the news last week and one of the side effects they said came with the Swine flu shot was Guillain-barre syndrome which there is no cure for. They also said they were watching the people who are being tested with the shot to see how many get the GBS to see what the percentage rate is since the shot is new. Well it would be too late for the people who got it from the shot except to be treated for the GBS. That made me question the fact if I would want it or let any of the family get it.

Hi Ada,

I am a firm believer in not being the first ones to take a new vaccine, they put this vaccine together too quickly, I am sure that there will be several issues with this vaccine. I remember back in the 70's when this happened. Supposedly, it is different. But, I would not chance the vaccine on my child.
You should watch the link that was put up on this thread, it is very interesting...to say the least. Thanks for your post.

Hugs and prayers to you.

Sandy

Within 24 hours she came down with flu symptoms, this was three weeks ago, she has been sick since. Her leg is hurting again and she just feels awful. Of course the GP said that it could be a side effect from the flu shot, but I think she is having a flare.

Has anyone else had a flu shot and felt this way for a long period of time?
I am feeling very discouraged right now, and don't know if I should take her back to Dr. Kirkpatrick for a visit.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
thank you,
Sandy
Hi Sandy and Lindsey,
I'm sorry you got the flu Lindsey. I have RSD full body-14 years now. I never had the flu shot so far. I got the flu about 12 weeks ago. Dr. gave me 10 days of antibiocs, thought I was well a couple days after the 10 days, but it came back. Will see the Dr. again Tuesday. My RSD Dr. said he wanted me to get both shots. My gp Dr. wanted to give me the flu shot while I still had fever and sick with the flu. I don't agree with that, getting the shot while running fever and sick. I'm going in Tues. and want chest x-ray check for pneumonia and flu. But I feel it's not a good thing to get the shot while sick.

Anyone with thoughts on this?

Sandy, I'm working on building up my immune system with foods high in anti-oxidants. There is a good website on rsd from a Dr. that is now retired. It's rsdrx.com Dr. Hooshmand. The part called puzzles List is 140 question and answers. It's very informative. That is a part on the immune system and also inflammation and rsd.
Sandy, your thoughts are very much appreciated. My heart goes out to you and your daughter. My daughter was 15 when I got RSD following surgery. It was very hard on her and still is. She is married now. We used to play tennis, water ski, snow ski, aerobics together. travel together. It was a loss to both of us and still is. Take care and please give Lindsey soft hugs loretta

Hi Loretta,

My understanding about any immunizations is that you should be healthy to receive them. That has always been the philosophy of any doctor that my family has seen. If you feel that uneasy about the flu shot wait until you are better. Insist on a chest x-ray, you know your body better than anyone. Remember you are your advocate, waiting can only make you worse. Go in and insist...

Lindsay said thank you for your post, she is still feeling pretty lousy, coughing and having a difficult time breathing. She is using the nebulizer rather than her inhaler, it seems to be helping a little. I will probably have to take her to her Pulmonologist on Monday. I think she is having Asthma problems along with the flu. Lindsay sends you soft hugs too!

On another note, the last visit Lindsay had with her PM, not Kirkpatrick, she gave me a list of supplements that she wanted Lindsay to take, I am going to find them, I will post in the next few days. Supposedly, they bring down the inflamation. I remember one was fish oil. But, there were several.

I hope you feel better Loretta, My prayers are with you. Your daughter understands and I am sure if she feels the way that I do, she just wants you to feel better. You have wonderful memories, You still have a long life ahead of you, just because you can't play tennis any longer, you still have movies and popcorn and conversation and soft hugs. My favorite time with my daughter is when she makes me watch her weird television shows with her. She makes cookies and we eat them with milk and talk. It is a beautiful thing, so smile that you can still have this time with her and know that this time is more precious.

Much love and soft hugs to you too,

Sandy

I always get the flu shot (already got the "regular one this year") and plan to get the H1 N1 when it becomes available. I also have an autoimmune situation, because I have rheumatoid arthritis on top of the RSD. For that reason my doctors have strongly expressed that I should get them to have my best chances of going through the season without getting real sick. Because of the reduced immunity, I would likely get the flu when it comes around.

There is something many people don’t realize about the “flu shots” and I don’t think it is explained very well.

The pharmaceutical companies that make these injections study the different strains of influenza, trends of infection, and other factors and then take a “good guess” on what will be prevalent in North America during the 2009 – 2010 “flu season.” They do this every year, and for different parts of the globe, like Western Europe, Asia, North Africa, etc. The research and development takes place long before the inoculations take place.

There are some strains that will not be included. It is possible that there was an incorrect guess or that a new strain popped up. In that case, you can get flu even though you got the “flu shot.” The idea, though, is to protect against the types that will most likely be around.

Like everything else, we weigh the risks against the benefits. My wife works in an elementery school, which is a germ factory. People send sick children to school all of the time, either because they need to go to work, or because the schools encourage it by handing out "perfect attendance" awards.

Mike

Hi Sandy,

I'm so sorry to hear that your daughter is ill after recieving the flu shot and that her leg is hurting her a lot again!

I had the flu and Pneumonia (sp?) shot last year on the advice of my PM Doctor. I too developed the cold / flu and think I was in bed for a few weeks because of it. My Doctor told my mum that he thought that might happen unfortunately because of my immune system being weakened by the RSD.

I have been ill recently with the flu - not sure if it was the swine flu or what but certainly haven't felt that ill in a very long time!! Every time I tried to move, I couldn't and had a severe headache, kept coughing and sneezing, feeling sick, high temperature etc. My RSD flared up a lot then and everytime I tried to stand on my leg, I was in floods of tears. I'm feeling a little better now thankfully but am still not fully better.

I really hope Lindsey feels better soon! I can't imagine how soul destroying it must be to have something help and then fall ill again - please pass my sympathies onto her!

Take care and keep us posted when you can!

Alison

Hi Ali,

I am so happy to hear from you, I am also sorry that you are not feeling well. But, it seems that your life is pretty well on track. I hope you are having fun in College and things continue to look up for you. Take care sweetie and my prayers are with you. Lindsay is still struggling, but I think that this is her Asthma flaring up, I am waiting on her Pulmonologist to call as I am typing. As with everything, I guess we can expect this to happen,

Mike, you are absolutely right about the flu shot. It never crossed my mind that she could have picked up a different strain of the flu, thank you for your post.

Hugs,
Sandy

Hello All!
Here in SE PA, (NE PHILLY), it seems to be a BIG business, by the likes of "Rite Aid", et el, to give you two flu shots, @ about 29.99 each. A Handy profiteering dream.

Yet, I wonder. Dr. S, and Dr. K, have both told me, "Don't you ever get a Flu Shot"!

Keep your immune system as healthy as possible, i.e. get your rest, and keep your vitamins up! C, B complex, E, Omaga 3 Fish oil, maybe some more, like a Multi.
(multi's upset my stomach, so, I'd need to take a Tum, Ta tum tum, with it....)

Regardless, when you get a "Flu" shot, you're getting a "tiny dose" of the flu. So that your body will build antibodies. Sound good? If you're healthy, yea.
Every time, (since I have had RSD, and I got a shot, I GOT THE FLU, within a week or three.) That's NOT a coincidence!
We have compromised immune systems!
Why would we want to go "shootin' up" flu virus' into ourselves? Why?

Keep your immune system healthy!
Vitamins, good eating habits, and good sleep!

I can't say any more......

Pete

According to Dr. Blaylock whose 4 part video I put up here recently... the testing population for the H1N1 virus vaccine is NOT receiving vaccine with adjuvants added to it. It is the ADJUVANTS that create the autoimmune reactions. Squalene in particular. So the testing being done is not valid for GBS reactions IMO.

This particular vaccine has more adjuvants than typically used because the level of virus is low in it...not enough time to make sufficient amounts of vaccine. It is this fact, that the inflammatory nature of the adjuvant content is the factor that is potentially harmful.
