Default Flu Shot and possible flare

Hi Everyone,

Remember me my 16 year old daughter had the ketamine infusions and was doing really well. She had her 8 week visit and Dr. Kirkpatrick feels she is in partial remission.

Here's the problem. My daughter's GP insisted that she get a flu shot, which she has never had before, due to the Swine Flue epidemic here in Tampa. It was the influenza flu shot. Within 24 hours she came down with flu symptoms, this was three weeks ago, she has been sick since. Her leg is hurting again and she just feels awful. Of course the GP said that it could be a side effect from the flu shot, but I think she is having a flare.

Has anyone else had a flu shot and felt this way for a long period of time?
I am feeling very discouraged right now, and don't know if I should take her back to Dr. Kirkpatrick for a visit.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
thank you,
Sandy

Sandy,
I think it's imperative that you at least call Dr. Kirkpatrick!
TOMORROW AM!
He's obviously trusted by you, and her main rsd provider.
(Why would you think, that we'd forget you and your daughter?)
I have a tbi, and You are both important!
(I do apologize, because, I do not remember your daughter's name).

Both my doctors, Schwartzman, and Knobler,
Told me to NEVER get a flu shot!

Our immune systems are on "low"....

It would be a fairly ridiculous thing to do....
(I mean, they told me this, and, eyeballed me).

I'm so sorry that your daughter has actually got the flu.
Give her vitamins, and keep her comfy!!!!
Ask Dr Kirkpatrick what specifically to do!!!

Call Dr. Kirkpatrick!!!!

I've NEVER had a flu shot in 26 years of this monster, without getting the flu.
But, I've Also gotten the flu anyway.
Our bodies do Know enough to fight.

All my prayers and wishin & Hopin'.

Pete

Thank you Pete,

I will call Dr. Kirkpatrick first thing in the morning. My daughters name is Lindsay. Thank you for your reply, I am scared of course, because she was doing so well. I will let you know what he say. Again, thank you.

My prayers are with you too.

Sandy

I got the regular Flu shot last week.
I've gotten it for the past 4 flu seasons.

I also plan on getting the H1N1 shot when it becomes avaliable.

For me, the benefits far out weighed the risks.

I have an auto immune component to my RSD/CRPS and if I did get the flu, it would not only cause an RSD flare, but trigger an IC flare, increase my seizures, effect my sleep, weight, etc. Once that happends and everything gets all out of balance, it becomes a vicious cycle that is extremely hard to break.

(Keep in mind though, not everyone has an anuto immune component to their RSD/CRPS and other medical issues than can complicate things)

I am also around big groups people and exposed to a lot of germs on an almost daily basis.

I do take vitamins, keep hydrated, and try to be as healthy as I can, but, if I do happen to get sick, the consequences and risk for complications increase. So, if getting the Flu shot gives me a better shot of avoiding a major illness during the flu seas, then it was worth it.

In essence, its not a one size fits all thing, and each person has to evaluate their circumstances and make a descion on what is best for them.

L2L,
You are, of course correct.
This is why I always recommend, Talk to Your doctor!

This may seem "off topic", if you don't have the flu.
But, the flu is NASTY, once you do get it!

So, please, ALL!
Talk to your doctor!

Sandy, My prayers always, and, to ALL HERE!

Default Thoughts & Prayers

Hi Sandy, My thoughts and prayers are with you and Lindsey. I know the fear you live with all too well as i have an 18-year-old daughter who was diagnosed with RSD 6 years ago. I very seldom post on here anymore as I am kept so busy looking for help for her; but I would love to talk with you sometime. Please take care of yourself and your precious daughter. Love, Jeanne

Flu shots (including H1N1) are not being endorsed by all scientists.

This video is part 2 or 4 and very interesting. The other 3 parts are on YouTube as well:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnaiubVJv8E&NR=1

This infectious disease expert refuses the vaccine for himself and his children:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1z7KSEnyxw

The concept of adjuvants is troubling. These additives are thought now to cause many of the reactions people can have with vaccines.

Default Hi Sandy,

The first year I got the flu shot, I actually got the flu. My Dr. said it was a strain that wasn't covered in the flu shot I got. My immune system was shot also at the time and my RSD was flared. Since then I get them every year and I've done fine. It's been about 6 years of them that I have had plus the Pneumonia shot.

My kids are right now passing everything around to each other in their household and so far I do believe the flu shot has protected me from getting what they have.

As far as the swine flu shot, I don't know on that one yet if I would want it. I do worry about my boys coming down with it though. It is thick right now in our area too. Over 100 out of school in the town next to us and 80 out in the boys school. The boys are always fighting off something so I worry about them getting it. They are both in good health accept for Devin being low on iron and we are working on that one now but damned if they don't catch everything that comes along. Susan is sick right now and on meds for several different things. Devin just got over it and before him Travis and before him Dustin. This has been going on for a few months due to the crappy summer we have had. I have been lucky even though I go down there or have the boys over, I haven't gotten anything they had {knock on wood}. That's why I prefer to get the flu shot.

It's up to the individual though. Hopefully your daughter will start feeling better in the next few days.

Ada

Hi everyone,

I took Lindsay to the Doctor and she has the flu, Dr. K. is going to see her next week. Hopefully, she will feel better in a couple of days.

I really appreciate all of you, I know that I have no idea how you feel, but everyday I read your posts and I cry for you. I try to understand what you must feel everyday, because I see my daughter suffer. I will tell you that I have noticed a considerable change since the Ketamine Infusions. I do believe that the RSD is rearing its ugly head again, and maybe she will have to have a booster, but I think this was a very good choice. She was pain free for two months.

Thank you so much for your prayers. You all have been a rock to me, and I feel that my emotional well being and understanding has change since I found all of you. God Bless All of you for making me a part of your family, and for giving me such wonderful support.

All my love,

Sandy

Wow, thank you for this, I would never give her the H1N1 vaccine.
