Question What is the difference between RSD and RND?

What is the difference between RSD and RND? Am I understanding it correctly that RND is what some people call RSD type 1?

Default Rnd??

Hi Vanessa!

Thank you for your friendly "welcome". I'm still trying to figure out how to answer people, etc, on this site.

I'm so sorry you're going through this while so young! But I'm glad the prognosis is good for young people (yea for youth!!).

I've never hear the term RND. I'm sure someone will know.

I wanted to answer your question aabout natural treatments. The PA at my Orthopedic's office advised me to try Mannetech Glyconutrients. He said there's been research that CRPS is due to an immune deficiency disorder. I've been taking them fairly steadily for several months and have been wondering if, possibly, that's why I've been feeling better lately.

Time will tell. But I broke a finger on my right hand (the one with the most severe RSD) and I went into a 3 -4 month SEVERE FLARE!! But then, it seems it has settled down quickly. More quickly then it should have compared to other flares I've had.

Hope this helps! Have a great weekend!

Denise

RSD (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy) is the same thing to RND (eather Regonal Neurological Disorder OR Reflex Neurological Disorder (cant remember which), and there is also CRPS (Complex regional pain syndrome) is all the same thing. (and it all SUCKS!!!)

I also started taking Mannatech glyconutrients since I was diagnosed. I find that it makes all of the difference in the world. If I miss it for a few days, I find my symptoms harder to deal with.

Default RSD and RND

are the same. Plus pain amplification syndrome, CRPS, and Amiplified Musculoskeletal Pain Syndrome. More and more names for the same thing without a cure I declare NO PAIN DAY for all Mothers tomorrow-if I only had that power that would be my gift to you. But, because I don't, I'll just send hugs to you and all my best. Carose

RND is Reflex Neurovascular Dystrophy. It is is a general term that Dr Sherry at the Pennsylvania clinic uses. Yes you are right, rsd type 1 falls under rnd. Once it reaches stage 2 and 3, it is no longer considered rnd. But rnd can be more than just one kind of nerve disorder. It doesn't have to just be rsd type 1. So it is a less specific term. It is easier to research using rsd.

Hope this helps.

Hey IHH,

Well, I believe you already know my opinion on this, and I think I already know yours! I posted this as a response to a question on another board. It's similar to our discussion from last week:

RSD and RND are exactly the same thing. Anybody who says otherwise is either misinformed or is adhering to to an idea that has no scientific validity. RND is a term commonly used by a certain set of pediatric doctors who believe in a certain set of practices to treat whatever you want to call this stupid disease.

These doctors treat whatever-they-call-it with intensive physical therapy, and sometimes the very basic combination of Neurontin and Elavil. And they often get very good results with this treatment. Because although their theories are in my opinion, ridiculous, the treatment is very basic, conservative and works in a great deal of pediatric patients.

Why is this a pediatric thing? Where did these theories come from? It comes from the fact that children often recover more readily from RSD, without invasive procedures. However, that doesn't make it a different disease. It's to be expected. Neuroplasticity (the ability of the nervous system to rerout and "fix" itself) lasts well into the 20s. Adults don't have that advantage, and more steps must be taken to retrain the nervous system.

My problem with all of this? I don't want to name names of doctors who have definitely helped some people, but some of them have published articles and whatnot solely blaming psychological factors for the development of RSD (or RND).

That doesn't make RND an illegitimate term for this disease. Really, I think it's a better name than CRPS. RND, standing for reflex neurovascular dystrophy, at least takes into account that there are vascular problems seen in RSD or RND. The most distressing part of this disease may be pain, but there are other things going on here.

-Betsy

KateLynne,

Thanks, but I think that what you had to say was worthwhile too! I've had a lot of time to research and formulate my responses to this crap, since I've had RSD for 12 years (since I was 12, which is now half of my life as I'm 24 now). I liked your post because you told it exactly how you saw it.

Don't be afraid of expressing your opinion! You have as much right to it as anyone else does!
