The Division of Pain Medicine delivers a multidisciplinary, team-based approach to the prevention, evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of painful disorders. Center Overview Allegheny Pain Management in conjunction with Allegheny Surgery Center is a freestanding facility, which provides services related to pain management. Allegheny Surgery Center provides the community and physicians with a safe and economical program whereby selected procedures requiring anesthesia may be done on an outpatient basis. We have a dedicated research area that employs full time clinical coordinators who have research experience. Our mission is to treat patients with pain by advancing research, practice and treatment methods. The goal of our professional team is to work cooperatively to exceed our patient's expectations. Our commitment is to provide individualized care to enhance the health and well being of the people we serve, in a caring respectful environment. Clinical Research Experience Dr. Drass has been conducting clinical trials since 1997. Our research site has extensive experience conducting Phase II - IV clinical trials in the following areas: * Chronic pain (OA, PHN, DN, NP, CLBP, Cancer, Fibromyalgia) * Acute pain (Total knee and hip replacement, abdominal surgery, and arthroscopic surgery) * Anesthesia * Hormone Replacement Our research staff has worked with a variety of sponsor companies and CRO's. Sponsors include: * Endo Pharmaceuticals * Ortho McNeil * SkyePharma * GlaxoSmithKline * Pain Therapeutics * Pfizer * Forest Research Institute * XenoPort * Schwarz Biosciences * Upsher-Smith Laboratories * Purdue * Sankyo CRO's that we have worked with include: * SCIREX * PharmaNet * OmniCare * PRA International * Pharmaceutical Resource Corporation * INC research * i3 research * PPD Development Facility Description Allegheny Pain Management and adjacent Surgery Center are located in the Station Medical Center established in 2004; located in downtown Altoona. We are easily accessed from Interstate 99. Local airports include Altoona and State College. Allegheny Surgery Center has 2 fully certified and accredited "state of the art" operating rooms with ACLS certified staff. Allegheny Surgery Center is contracted for other specialties including podiatry. Two comfortable waiting rooms and private consultation areas are available to our clients. Emergency medical equipment is on site. We are located less than one mile from Altoona Regional Health System's Altoona Campus and Bon Secours Campus. The research area has dedicated secure double lock drug storage, laboratory with a - 80 degree celcius freezer, and ECG equipment. Radiology services are located within indoor walking distance. Designated monitoring workspace is equipped with phone lines and wireless internet connection. Investigator Experience Investigators available on site are: * Michael Drass, M.D. Certified in anesthesia and pain management. * Heidi Murphy, PA-C Local physicians have also participated in clinical trials as sub investigators. Their specialties include: * orthopedics * obstetrics and gynecology * neurology * oncology * anesthesia * podiatry Staff Expertise Our dedicated clinical research staff includes: * Vickie Lassak, BSN Clinical Research Coordinator since 2001 * Lori Letcher, RNC Clinical Research Coordinator since 2003 * Chrysa Wyland, BS Clinical Research Assistant * Sharon Biter Clinical Research Assistant Patient Demographics Allegheny Pain Management and Surgery Center receives referrals from a wide network of primary care physicians. We are located next to two large medical groups and have an excellent referral relationship with both organizations. Our local population also has been very receptive to advertising. Other Information Our research center is free to use a central IRB for all outpatient clinical trials. The Altoona Regional Health System Institutional Review Committee provides oversight for any surgical or inpatient clinical trials. Electronic database on site.
