I really enjoy the pets stories,Id love to have a racoon,Ive seen them at night ata friends house in the mountains,they come in to eat the cat food that he leaves out,they actually eat along side of the cats,they seem to be compatable,,I like others,do worry about rabbies,but that [not always] but ussually is effident,ive seen rabid animals before,,but a wild racoon,will only walk away fro you about ten yards waiting to see if your going to run him offf or if its ok to come back to eat,,their funny,they like to stand up on their hind legs with their arms hanging down to their sides with their mask on ,,its hillarious,,,I do love animals,,me and my wife live out in the desert in N.M and feed the quail and cottontail rabbits that depend on their food every morning and evening,,there are a few jack rabbits that come in to feed ,but they are skidish,,they are a work of art,,big , beautifull,elligant,,about two and a half feet tall,,Ive noticed that we have a few regulars,and they have moved closer to the food source..one big jack has moved about 50 yards from the house,,inbedded in the middle of a bush,,we also have alot of hawks around here,,you know when one is flying over,all the animals scramble and the rabbits shape themselves into what looks like a rock to blend into the terrain,,,,,,,,,,,

I would love to see that! My raccoon was the best! I couldn't get a vet in three states to see her; but it was SO worth it! I have not been loved more by any pet. Very smart. Very loving and VERY fun! She had a stuffed animal pet; a dolphin. She would suckle (sp?) it and purr like a kitten. She was a baby and needed love like any baby would.

I still see her on occasion (sp?). We always make eye-contact and she would bring her babies up to me so I can see them grow...I am a proud grandma! Oh, how I miss her. I only wish that people were as trusting and friendly. Truly one of the best memories of my life! Thanks, Bebee!

The weather here is great 70 degree winters and no humidity in the summer,,,in the desert ,you never know what kind of animals live there,,we have rattlesnakes too but they make themselves known, but the quail,cottontails walk right up to you to get their food,but like the big jack rabbits are skidish,,we feed them scrtach[blended bird food] and they love that and apples and cabbage are their favorite,,,,,i want God to open his hand to feed me,,so i do not see it a waste to feed these guys,,we've feed them so long now, that they depend on it,,twice a day,,and on saturday when we try to sleep in,,that aint happening,,they beat on the side of the bedroom wall to wake us up,,no joke,,their funny,,,,I like hebrews 13:2 " Do not forget to entertain strangers , for by so doing some people have entertained angels without no knowing it.

That is interesting about the cabbage. My wild rabbits won't eat cabbage upNorth... or onions! I do save my veggie scraps for them and the deer. Both the deer and bunnies like alfalfa pellets, which I get for them and take up there. (not much to eat on the island, as it doesn't have much soil base over the rocks).

They sure did like the soy chips I put out once! (they were stale for us).

There is also a wonderful book written about a woman who developed a special relationship to a Quail... I found this book in our library, and it is just excellent. It is short but sweet!

GREAT THREAD!!

I have two kitty's but one stays with my boyfriend. The one that stays here is a super fluffy white and gray kitty. His name is Jett. He is my world! He sleeps with my at night.. lays on my belly and purrs, until I fall asleep. He helps me ALOT when I am hurting. He is so soft I love when he lays next to my affect leg skin on fur!! He too,follows me around like a dog....always greets me when I walk in, no matter what!

I can relate to your love of pets! I have a litle yorkie named Zoey and she has been a lifesaver since my RSD diagnosis. She seems to know when I am having a bad day and will literally follow me everywhere! Since I have had to qit my job, I have had some free time to teach her tricks, for cheese!! Hell, I will dance for cheese, LOL! She will dance, shake a paw, roll over, you know. . .all the basics, so I have been teaching her some primo tricks like "smiling" When we come home after being away,, she will stand at the top of the stairs and she gets so excited that her gums will retract, showing her teeth, so we just kept on saying, upon coming home to this. . .Are ya smilin'? So now,(for a piece of cheese, of course,) I will out of the blue say, "Zoey, are ya smilin'?" and UP go the gums and the "smile appears!! the next one I taught her was "sneezin'" You know how dogs will just kinda huff and sneeze? same thing! so now I will say. "Zoey, are ya sneezin'"? and she will throw her head back and sneeze like nobody's business!! I tell you, that little fur ball has been a lifesaver through this hell. The only problem now, is the little shite will walk right up to you,, plop her but down and SNEEZE!! Pets are no dummies for sure!

My dog Sammy
 

My best friend, other than my husband, is my dog Sammy.

I rescued him from the pound a little over 3 years ago on my birthday. We don't know how old he is, just that he was fairly young when we got him, or what kind of dog he is, except that he appears to be a mix of long haired doxsie and King Charles Cavalier Spaniel - he is so incredibly cute!!

Sam follows me everywhere, walks at least 3 miles a day with me, and is fiercely protective of me with strangers and other pets. His little body is always so soft and warm. And he can run like the wind - he is way faster than any other dog in our neighborhood.

Since the inception of my RSD I have relied on Sam to more and more for emotional support - he helps me get through my days because he needs his long walks, regular grooming, and when I need a shoulder to cry on I can hug his little body.
