I don't know that much about acupuncture, but I recently got a tattoo and it was a surprisingly, wonderful experience. If you can get the same endorphin rush like I did with my tat, then I say try it. I wish we had an acupuncturist near us.. good luck!

I had about 20 treatments of acupuncture for my rsd. I LOVE ACUPUNCTURE, but NOT for RSD. I felt good for about 20 minutes, but then afterwards my arm felt like it was burning on fire a thousand times worse. It helped ALOT with my back pain and tight muscles and headaches, but i recommend not having acupuncture IN the limb that is affected. hope it helped a little

Hi Azaila,
I had about 6 to 8 sessons of acupuncture about a year and a half ago for my lower limb RSD. I had gone to a treatment after work and both my lower legs and feet were burning when I arrived! The acupunturist inserted the needles into my earlobe area and forehead, NOT into my RSD limb . After about 20 minutes the terrible burn started to subside....the treatment relaxed me and that in itself also probably lowered my pain level.. I tried to get more treatments authorized but the insurance dropped the ball... There are insertion points in the outer part of the ear that effect limbs, etc, so that needles need not be directly inserted into the RSD site. I have read differing reports of people who have tried acupuncture with RSD...some successful, some not.... If and when I have the opportunity again, I will pursue the treatment .. Let us know how it goes if you give it a try...make sure your have a competent practitioner..such as an M.D who is also trained in traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture... I hope it works for you!! Hope4thebest |

I had had really good results with acupuncture for other pain problems years ago and was encouraged to try it for RSD. It was not a good experience AT ALL. One thing to consider is that needling can cause this to spread and unfortunately, I was in a flare when I had this recommended. Just my experience.

My pain doc had suggested this so I spoke with the people who did it and asked my ?'s. I did not do it because I am so sensitive to touch. Anyhow they said they don't have to put the needles in the rsd areas. Also to me a lot was that it does not so much help the pain area but helps with anxiety, sleep, relaxation etc so that in turn helps your pain. Does that make sense? What I would suggest is talk to the person who does it and ask your ? and also ask how many people with RSD they work with.

I also tried acupunture with a practictioner that was certified in TCM. It was awesome - very relaxing. The needles were not used near my RSD areas.
I would recommend it to anyone who can afford it or obtain coverage for it. Make sure you go to someone who knows what they are doing and that they do not touch you where you tell not to - especially where you have RSD. |

Hello,
Acupuncture did not work for me at all. I already have a hyperactive nervous system. Acupuncture just made my nerves all that more irritated and active. I was beat red and in horrible pain afterwards. I went for about 6 sessions and couldn't take it anymore. After the sessions I had to go home because I was in horrible pain. I was not able to find an acupuncturist that specialized in RSD. For me it didn't work and the thought of needles anywhere on my body is torturous. |
