Default Who's seen Dr. Getson in NJ for Ketamine

I'm looking for info on Dr. Getson in NJ for his success in Ketamine infusions. If anyone can offer any advice on costs, where he is located, his time frame for his wait list and his ability as a Dr. to treat his patients I would love to hear from you. Does he have a good bed side manner? Does he offer a 3day, 4 day or 10 day infusion? All good ???s, but must know all as I have only read what is at one particular website. Please do spill the beans on him.

Thanks

Default Getson

I met Dr Getson years ago- He is a very laid back regular type person. At that time he advised me to get the 5 day ketamine infusion (which I ended up doing in NYC with a different doc) He also thought I should consider the ketamine coma- His office is very old fashioned- Don't be at all nervous to talk to HIm. I think he works closely with Dr Schwartzman,,,,,,,,,,,

To answer your questions, I have had 3 -5 day in-patient ketamne infusions at the Hospital for Special Surgery with Dr. Daniel I. Richman. He is extremely knowledgable about RSD and has a very good bed side manner. Truly I have never dealt with a doctor who cared so much about his patients. The one thing that is tricky about seeing him is what type of insurance you have he only takes PPO Type of policies, no WC, he ops out of medicare, he does not participate with any HMO at all, as far as the last time I asked, which was just recently. He only does the 5 day inpatient I went to Dr. Schwartzman for my boosters who he works with him very closely. The only doctor that I am aware of that does is all is Dr. Schwartzman. Dr. Richman"s wait list is probably about 2 -5 months but I could be wrong. I know he will not take on more patients then he can handle. So really you have to call his office. As far as cost I was very lucky my insurance paid for the hospital stay and most of the doctor bills each time, I did have to lay about $3000 out of pocket each time directly to Dr. Richman.

I have also had many surgeries, procedures at HSS and the facility is above any other hospital I have ever been in. The quality of care is excellant, at least that was my experience. The website is www.hss.edu.

Good Luck

It's all very intersting to read and listen in on each post regarding dr's who treat RSD. Everyone is so amazed about Dr. S and Dr. K, but there is another dr who has had such success with Ketamine and that is Dr. Harbut. Although he does a 10 day infusion; he is no longer doing his research as he has just started in a VA hospital in AK. I only wish I could get in with him as soon as he starts seeing patients outside the VA arena. So at this time I trying my best to see who else might be close enough to his treatment agenda and see what might lie ahead.

I appreciate your thoughts regarding this. Everyday it is a constant suffering dealing with the pain. This monster had riddled me for almost 5 years and the bad part is that I am on wc. My PM won't even discuss alternative medicine with me. A couple of years back I heard of pharmacists prescribing Ketamine cream which had to be compound specifically and I had to beg my PM doc to let me give it a try. I was warned it would burn.....yes, it did burn but I at least had to give it a try. If I was to do anything outside wc then it comes from my pockets; hence ketamine treatments. The coma based treatment is NOT an option for me and I won't even consider it. If I am awake then I feel I have more control over my situation including my spouse who would be a voice above my own.

Hannah1234 Must ask- how long has your ketamine lasted? how many treatments or boosters have you had? What dose did you receive?

Red Swan- I have read and heard Dr. Getson has good bedside manner, very knowledgeable and caring. I know he is a family Dr. so i dont know what dose of ketamine he is allowed to give. I know I saw a pain specialist that gives 3 day high dose and he told me neurologist by law are only allowed to give a lower dose ketamine(unlike pm Dr) so i am curious to know what dose a family Dr. can give. Dr. S paper is on low dose ketamine which has shown success. Yet a ketamine coma uses high dose. I found it so confusing. Best of luck with your search. momof4

For papers that have been written by Getson see the research article archive at RSDSA.org.

Default Getson

To quote Dr Getson- when i saw him about 4 years ago-"go for the coma- you get more bang for your buck"...I dont know if he still feels that way but that is what he told me.......
