I have RSD in both sides of my face and after a recent flair the hair on my cheeks and near the scalp line is long enough to comb. Fortunately most of it is light colored.
Should I begin shaving? Will it grow in coarser? The thought of using Nair on my face gives me the willies. Even chin hairs, eyebrows, and nose hair are growing out of control. Also have some really long and dark hairs on my left arm that I just might take a pair of scissors to. If any females have experience in de-MANning themselves I sure could use some help. Thanks. |

I have RSD along my jaw and up in front of my ear on one side. The hair is definitely longer on that side of my face. Like you, mine is light color, so I don't worry about it.
I also have it on my neck, and up the back of the left side of my head. The hair that normally grows on my neck is three times as long on that side as the other side. I am not going to do anything about it. Where my shoulder got RSD a few years back, the hair was really thick for a while - and now there is none at all. But then, I have never been a woman who wore makeup to speak of (allergic) or even lip gloss. Just plain country woman. So maybe it does not bother me as much. My hair on my legs is odd too - large areas with no hair at all. I have RSD in both feet and on my left calf. I don't shave unless I MUST because it hurts so much, and I dread starting to wear shorts and needing to shave again. I am getting ready to apply for disability and I hope that the unusual hair patterns will be to my advantage. |

Hi,
You may want to get your hormones checked. Call your doctor and see if maybe it could be hormonal! Before you assume it is your RSD. Sandy Quote:

Shaving doesn't really make hair grow in coarser. It just seems coarser because the top comes out flat, instead of tapered.
I pluck and pluck and pluck! |

Thanks Sandy, I would have thought the same thing but I had them checked two weeks ago. My doctor saw nothing out of the ordinary, just that they need to be tweaked a little. At the time I had not been diagnosed with RSD yet and she didn't want to start making changes to the bioidentical hormones I take.

Thank you so much for this post. I am getting really self-concious about all the extra facial hair. I thought I was just freaky. With the RSD in my left arm\hand\shoulder it is becoming difficult to pluck. Has anyone tried Vaniqa??

I am just the opposite of all of you. I lost all the hair everywhere, & I do mean everywhere, once RSD took over both my feet. I am not kidding. Even one of my grandsons noticed last week & asked me how come I didn't have any hair on my arms. Now I have had RSD try to spread to my hands a few times & each time I have had cervical SGB's done, a series of 6 on each side & it was after that I noticed I didn't have any arm hair. I rarely ever shave my arm pits or legs. Legs only when I notice a long stray hair here & there. I was never really hairy anyway & even though I am a brunette, most of my body hair was/is blond. I have also had problems with my fingernails & toenails over the years too, but since having had SGB's & LSB's over the years since 2004, they have become more normal than they were when I first got this in 2003. They became thin & ripped alot with pits & rough. I use to get compliments on my hands all the time because of how great my nails were. I never had to wear fake nails. I did my own manicures every week. I just wanted to let ya'll know that some of us have had the opposite happen to us.
