Default confused about pain pump

Well I spoke with my PM doc re the pump and it did not go well. Since i am practically no meds (just one vicodine a day) he felt it was an extreme step to take. When I told him that I can't tolerate oral meds, he basically said the effects would be the same in the pump. He really felt I was no were near where I have to be to get the pump but in the end he agreed he would discuss the trial with me after I thought about it for a while. He brought up possible bad side effects like infection. The trial would be a catheter in my spine connected to some sort of IV. A 5 day inpatient stay. Now I am so confused and sad.....help me think this thru!

PS - Why haven't more of you thought about the pain pump???
