Default Whinge Time...

Hi all,

Well, I'm having a bit of a flare at present, hands, both arms and neck - the big RSD/RSI/stenosis/spondylosis/arthritis combo.... and apart from being painful, it makes me fearfully grumpy and bad-tempered

So I'm going to take this opportunity to have a whinge about two things which drive me to distraction....

I have to remove all the labels in the neck of my tops, they scratch, itch, sting...can't wear 'em! Is it me or is it me, but are they getting harder and harder to unstitch? Are the labels themselves made out of scratchier material, and the thread they use stronger? Almost impossible to unpick without ruining the garment...aaaarghhh, drives me nuts.

And the other thing is those sticky price labels they clap on everything you buy; I think shops should be made to remove them before you take the goods home - the glue they're using is super-strength, you need lighter-fuel to remove them and I just haven't got the dexterity in my fingers anymore to manage it.

Grrr bah humbug harrumph ... anyone else got any pet peeves?
all the best

Those price labels drive me up the wall!!! those and how impossible it is to get into packaging these days. You pretty much need a laser cutter to open some things.

Although, at the moment, my largest pet peeve is when you make an effort to call someone on the phone, and you politely leave a nice voicemail. And they NEVER call back. Ever. And im not saying you need to call me back immediately, but if i took the 2 minutes to call and leave a message it usually isnt just cuz i wanted to chat about the weather. I think this is basically directed at a certain boy i know who lately has turned into quuuuuuiet a jerkfaceloser.

and people who TEXT MESSAGE while driving. That makes me crazy. if you have to use both hands to write someone a little message, please dont do it while your driving. its not a smart idea people. really, honestly it isnt. im not a fan of phone calls while driving, but reading and writing messages cannot be safe.

Default Hi Girls,

The lids on jars drive me nuts. Bill always took them off for me. He did buy me a jar lid remover that works good on most jars but not on some. There are times I have to wait to eat something I want until one of the kids comes over to remove the lid.

I agree with Anna on getting things open. They make those medication bottle lids that are kid safe that we can't get open.

Anna again on the phone calls. Nothing makes me madder then for me to call someone and they don't bother to return my call. I think it's one of the rudest things out there. I have several friends that beg me to call them and still never return my call. I finally quit calling them.

Using cellphones while they are driving. Haven't they made that against the law YET?

The labels in the clothes, Artist, I cut out. I hate them too but I know I might tear the clothes if I try and take the thread out. I cut as close to the material as I can without cutting the item. I hate them too.

I agree on the stick on labels also. They are cut into 4 so you have to get a tiny piece off at a time and it's very hard to do.

*****, *****, *****, that's all I do. LOL

Default i hate cell phones...........

they should make it a law here in michigan to not be allowed to talk on the cell phones....so many times you see people yakking away, and not paying attention to the road...............

this cold weather is my biggest peeve right now tho.........i want some nice warm sunshine..............send it to michigan...........

i also hate rude people.........they seem oblivious to being rude................i would never intentionally hinder someone or be rude to them...............

Thumbs Down Tags!!

I feel ya about the clothing tags. I do like Ada and cut them as close to the neckline as possible. That is the very first thing I do to any new clothes, remove all tags!!

We are getting ready to have a major rain event here, something like a week straight!!

Man that really gets the aches and pains in high gear!

Hope you get to feelin better.

It's 60 here today and the suns shining. Miracles do happen. LOL

I too hate rude people. I have often wondered how a person couldn't know they were being rude if it's unintentional.

I'm the same 99% of the time and I know you are to gramma. I like to be around people that have a good disposition all or at least 99% of the time. I won't even stay friends with a rude person if they can't change.

Hey Claudia,

Does that "never intentionally rude" rule apply to bill collectors? Could my wife have been right? Was it my bad to say those things to him? So many bill collectors, I have no idea who I may have offended, how can I possibly make it up to him?

Nevermind...Vic

Very funny, Vic, you'll just have to send them a bunch of flowers with a nice note

Ada - jar opening trick, usually works - get the jar in both hands and smack the edge of the lid smartly on the floor, you'll hear a pop, then it should open.

And hey, using cellphones while driving has even been outlawed here, unless it's with a headset....

Cutting off labels leaving a little bit still attached just makes it more intolerable for me, always been sensitive in the neck area and sometimes get a rash reaction...so the whole thing has to come off. (Yeah, got quite a few clothes with little holes in the material at the back of the neck ) c'est la vie...

all the best.

A list....

people that when you say you have RSD go ..................so, why can't you walk?

people that look at me as if I'm brain damaged or learning disabled when I'm out.

I hate tags, labels, pockets, drawstrings, elastic on sleeves and short legged pants.

people that aren't disabled that park in disable bays

health and safety idiots that refuse to let you have any fun and try and create rules banning people carrying me around.

disabled toilets which are too small to get in to

why tablets have to taste so ming. Why tablets can't be made in either a liquid form or any other form. (mine can't be got in liquid).

idiotic bars that don't have straws on tap

forward opening pull doors.... which idiot thought of that?

why toast always falls butter side down

traffic wardens

will be more.....

Why I have NO BRAIN AND AM SOO DUMB

Great thread

Default ideas that sometimes work

the easy one first....if the object with a seemingly permanent label is washable (things like candlesticks and planters, NOT clothing), spray it with cooking spray - i think the olive oil type works best - and let it sit overnight.....the next morning, u may be able to peel off the label....if not, do it again.......i suppose u could just rub plain old cooking oil on the label, but i'm lazy and use the spray type.

clothing labels?....this one is a bit more complicated and doesn't work on everything, but it can be helpful.......i bought some stuff called "wonder under" at a fabric store and about a yard of the softest cotton fabric i could find....washed the fabric 3 or 4 times, then ironed on the wonder stuff.....it's a paper backed adhesive....u iron on the paper side so that the glue is now on the back of your fabric (and be very careful doing it, or u will end up scouring your iron and cursing a blue streak, as i did).....then i cut the fabric, which now has an adhesive backing, into small ovals - corners peel up too easily - and u have soft patches which can be ironed on, over top of any label not easily removed....this can't be used on very delicate fabrics because u can't get the iron hot enough to make the glue stick.....also, it tends to leave a small ridge on the right side of the fabric....a price i will gladly pay not to have those awful labels poking my neck......i like to leave the paper backing in place after cutting my ovals to make it easier to tell which is the glue side of the patch (see comment on scouring/cussing).....i don't know where else u could get this stuff, or if it has other names, but it's intended for crafters who want to make decorative patches, monograms, etc.....a fair bit of work in the beginning, but a yard of fabric makes a zillion little patches.

don't have any suggestions for doors that open the wrong way....i hate them too.

and u don't have to talk louder than usual to me because i use a cane!

and whatever happened to "you're welcome"......"no problem" is NOT always the appropriate answer to "thank u".

and WHY can't we get rid of pennies?....they're heavy, they're useless, they're dirty....let's just round off to the nearest .05.....it will even out .....and i'm very sure of this....i worked for a major corporation that tried keeping books with and without pennies.....the original plan was to do it for a year, but since, at 6 months, there was NO difference in the account totals, the trial period was scrapped, and we went to the even dollar system.

who else has a gripe?
