Question Longest time period of relief from sympathetic block?

Hi all!

I just received a left lumbar sympathetic nerve block (first one in over a year and a half) and I'm just loving it! I had it done yesterday, and when I woke up this morning, I felt like a kid on Christmas day! I'm trying to be smart about not overdoing things -- just because it feels better, I still know the beast is there and can be easily awaken. I'm just wondering about any of y'all that have had it done ..... what was the longest period of time you've gotten relief from a block? I know it all varies, of course, but would like to guesstimate the longest time possible I could be happy like this

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!! Vanna

I have had four in five months. They only last about a month or a little longer for me. I had the screws taken out of the foot and they did some kind of block into the the ankle. My RSD is in the foot up tp my knee. Hope that helps..

My daugther has RSD and her first NB lasted 11 days, now we just finished a series of 3 over a month's time and they lasted only 3 days each. She did get some really good PT/OT done during the pain relief (down to a 2-3) Enjoy the the pain relief and don't over-do it. Wishing you long lasting relief!!!

Congrats on the relief! At the onset, I got one every few weeks. They really helped! As time went on, they were spread out. The last two, there was probably 3-4 months between blocks. I need one now as a whole lot of burning and deep bony aching has returned. Been 5-6 months now since the last. I guess I am happy that the blocks still have a positive effect on me for a month or so, but things degrade soon to where overall, my symptoms are worse than they were say 1-2 years ago. Overall, things are falling to ****! They call it entrophy. But I will continue with the blocks while they still work!

VFB....

I am so, so sorry..Only 3 days vacation... Maybe if you try again, you will get longer relief!! I had 4 out of 5 nerve blocks done, one every other week for 8 weeks... unfortunately, none worked... that is why my Dr. stopped after the 4th one...

I send you a hug...

Kathy

Thats great news that the nerve block is providing you relief! I also had nerve block treatments (9 total and in spine (lumbar) since my CRPS has spread to both of my legs). I found great relief and had a full week from the first shots but after the each time I noticed the relief was not lasting as long.. Each person is different and so I suggest focusing on your success with getting relief because that in itself is a beautiful gift. Also, my Dr. said to do as much as possible when I felt better so that the muscles would start building again. Hang in there and best wishes to u!

I never had very long pain relief from my blocks. The longest was only a couple of days, but I felt like a new puppy for that little bit of time. The worst part for me was when the pain returned, and I really wondered how it was possible to live with this much pain, let alone function. I am glad your blocks lasted longer and you had several days of pain relief, what a glorious thing!! Lisa

Pretty much what she said. Unfortunately I would usually sleep the majority of that time, making up for all the missed sleep due to pain.

I hope you get better results.
