Exclamation Elavil

Hi All! I just had an interesting visit with my PC doc. I have had a very difficult time this summer with heart problems. The heart meds that the cardiologist gave me caused a big increase in pain with some other problems. I had a follow up visit with the doc this afternoon, and we were discussing anti-depression medication that I had been on and WC abruptly quit paying for. The only med that they would cover was Elavil, and at about that time is when my heart problems began. My doc finally zeroed in on that and suggested that this drug may have contributed to this. This is not a listed or known side effect of this drug, but she remembered that she had had a previous patient that this drug had caused the same problem with the heart rate. Tonight is the first time that I stopped taking this drug, so it is going to be a wait and see type of approach. I am just putting this out there in case anyone else may be having the same type of problem. Wishing everyone a pain-free night, Lisa

Thanks for the warning. I'm not a heart patient but I am sure many on this site are.

I am a heart patient..I have a history of A-FIB plus a nasty arthemia and a leaky valve.... Know something cooll??..I actually had to have 'the' paddles before...For those who may or may not love me..My Dr. brought me back!! Ding.. Round #2!!!

I have had these issues for 23 years and medicated for them..Currently I take Tropral plus a blood thinner... Prior to the Tropral, I took Isoptin SR for many years..Now you know my deal about taking medicine and bad tummy but I was able to withstand these 2 drugs without many side affects.. WEIRD.. (if only I could take pain meds for my RSD)!! But I do remember I could not take other beta blockers, receptor meds...ill city..

If you ever have to change meds..I would reccomend them, Lisa... When I miss my does, I know it... Iam kinda like the dead fish flop going on!

Have a wonderful day....

Hugz, Kathy

I have been taking Elavil and Celexa for 2 years and my doc put me on Toprol about 6 weeks ago, because the pain kept raising my blood pressure up and down so fast he was afraid I would have a stroke...I haven't felt this good in the two years since I was affected by RSD...I think everyone is different. My friend Marsha has a really hard time with the Elavil and I am highly allergic to Lyrica and it works great for her...

Good luck with the med change
