Peter Pan Peanut Butter and Great Value Peanut Butter Products Beginning with Product Code 2111 Recalled for Possible Salmonella Contamination
OMAHA, Neb.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 14, 2007--ConAgra Foods today announced that it has taken the precautionary measure of voluntarily recalling all varieties of Peter Pan Peanut Butter and Great Value Peanut Butter beginning with product code 2111 imprinted on the lid of both brands. ConAgra Foods is working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to investigate a statistical report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that these products may be linked to the foodborne illness salmonella.

While this affects Great Value Peanut Butter beginning with product code 2111, there are other manufacturers of Great Value Peanut Butter that are not affected by this recall.

"Although none of our extensive product tests have indicated the presence of salmonella, we are taking this precautionary measure because consumer health and safety is our top priority," said Chris Kircher, spokesperson for ConAgra Foods. "We are working closely with the FDA to better understand its concerns, and we will take whatever additional measures are needed to ensure the safety, quality and wholesomeness of our products."

If consumers have this product, they should discard it, but save the product lid. For a full refund, consumers must return the Peter Pan Peanut Butter or Great Value Peanut Butter product lid along with their name and mailing address to ConAgra Foods, P.O. Box 3768, Omaha, NE 68103.

Consumers with questions or concerns about the recall can call the 24-hour toll-free hotline at 866-344-6970. For more information about salmonella, visit www.ific.org.

Default Thanks

for letting us know this. I am a peanut butter nut. I have it quite often and I want to let Susan know about it.

Peanut butter is such a popular thing for people that they eat so it's good that the word is getting out.

I have been trying for hours to get through to the phone number for Peter Pan peanut butter. One instruction I heard was to mail the lids with the number on to the address listed. My jars of peanut butter have the code printed on the jar, not the lid, so now what? The noon news broadcast said to take the peanut butter back to the store. Which is correct? I already ate four jars without getting sick there was a big sale on it).

We have had quite a bit of snow and ice here. My porch roof sprung a leak right at the doorway and now I cannot even step unto the porch because there is about a 4 inch layer of ice. There is a rubber mat at the doorway and you can't see it because it is buried under a thick layer of ice. My nice neighbor plowed out my driveway but I cannot get to my car.

Since I am shut in I think I will spend the day looking at nursery catalogues and dream of better days.

Wishing all of you comfy days, Lil

I'm pretty sure under most of these food recalls that returning it to the store is OK.

I'm sure I saw that during the spinach recall.

I called walmart where i bought my jars and they said that if i kept the receipt that i can get a refund that way, but shoot. i dont keep those things..lol from what our news said , they want you to send in the lids with the 2111 code on them and then evenutally you will get a refund. Im not sure if the code is jar itself.. they said it shold be on the lid????

Maybe they can only be returned to stores during an FDA recall.

This is just a recall by ConAgra.

so all you need to send is the lids that have those numbers on them.

Confused

None of my lids have numbers on them. In fact the lids are entirely without any markings whatsoever. All of the numbers are printed on the jars, not even on the labels. I can't very well mail five peanut butter jars - that would cost as much a the peanut butter. regards, Lil
