A French study evaluated the efficacy of treatment with pamidronate in 29 patients with RSD(60 mg/day for 3 days). By day 45, 86.2% of patients reported that pain had disappeared and 70% showed signs of functional improvement. On average, their pain disappeared in about 2 weeks and functional improvement was observed in about 3 weeks. Improvement seemed to come sooner in patients with post-traumatic RSD. Further studies are planned, including full 'double blind' placebo trials.

I was on Pamidronate. My doctor followed the trial protocol. It did nothing for me other than having to deal with some nasty side effects.

Pamidronate is the generic name for Aredia and is used for Cancer patients.

Aredia (pamidronate disodium), in conjunction with adequate hydration, is indicated for the treatment of moderate or severe hypercalcemia with malignancy, with or without bone metastases. The safety and efficacy of Aredia in the treatment of hypercalcemia associated with hyperparathyroidism or with other non-tumor-related conditions has not been established.

Aredia (pamidronate disodium) is indicated for the treatment of patients with moderate to severe Paget's Disease of bone. The effectiveness was demonstrated primarily in patients with serum alkaline phosphatase ≥3 times the upper limit of normal.

Aredia (pamidronate disodium) is indicated, in conjunction with standard antineoplastic therapy, for the treatment of osteolytic bone metastases of breast cancer and osteolytic lesions of multiple myeloma.

I'm afraid with RSD... it's all hit or miss... no two people are alike and what works for one may or may not work for another.

I would suggest you discuss this medicine/treatment with your doctor. Who knows... he/she may be willing to give it a try.
