Default medicare supplement plans

Can anyone with RSD who's on medicare recommend medigap and or supplement insurance plans? Your experiences etc, do's and don'ts? My wife still needs to look at AARP with UnitedHealthcare but I have issues with some of these health insurance companies because of battles I had with them way before she was approved for medicare. We've looked into Humana, and just a tad with BC/BS which I am partial to. Any thoughts, thanks

Default Hi Jim,

I have been on CCRX which is Community Care for about 5 years and my Pharmacist had recommended it to me. I have had a couple of problems with them on Prevacid but other then that it has been fine. It's paid for all of my other prescriptions.

BC/BS reimburses thier panel docs at roughly 20-60% of UCR (usual customary and reasonable) so gauge that against the quality of care (and doc) you may experience....

Hi Jim & Suzy,

I still have my husbands insurance as my secondary so they cover all my percriptions, medicare is my primary and Aetna is my secondary for medical. As you know medicare does not come with percription coverage. Anyway I know quite a few people who are using aarp with great results. I am also a Business Manager and the company I work for one of the owners is on Social Security and we just switched her from BCBS to AARP for Percriptions because of cost. Not so much cost of the plan but the cost of what they would cover in regards to the new Tier system that has come about with percriptions in the last 6 months. So what I discovered was the premium was a few dollars less with AARP than BCBS but AAPR are paying more when it come to the expensive Tier 3 medications which my client happens to take.

Hope this helped.

Thanks for the responses. Yesterday I did set up Part D for Suzy through AARP. Other complications revolve around the fact that her Medicare is retroactive back to June 2009. She has been told she will be penalized because she did not sign up for D or B, I forget, until now even though she could not use medicare back in 2009 because she was not approved until last Nov. 2. Now I'm confused.

Default Hi Jim

Part D came in when Bush was in office and I signed up for it then due to the help of my Pharmacist. Part a is Hospital and part B is medical and part D is for the Medication. I was signed up on both A and B a year after Bill passed but I didn't have to do anything to do it. They just switched me over to his SS.

I think too that the booklets don't go out on SS until Jan to let people know some of this info. I got a letter awhile back saying I have a deadline to switch medication companies but I don't want to.

It's something that is very hard to keep up with on your own. I would say find a local SS office and find someone in it to go in and talk to personally so you can get the facts you need to know. We just don't think of reading up on this stuff the computer about the SS.

Hi Jim and Suzy,

I was told by my case worker at SS Office that SSD does not come with precription options. I have asked this question more than once because quite honestly like you I was confused. Your on disability your obviously taking some type of meds. and when seniors get SS they have get an RX plan like you say either D or B. It has been on my mind also, after the holiday I'm going to call her again and ask why I don't get RX coverage through medicare. If I get any answers I let you know.
