Default Physical Therapy

Do any of you have trouble dealing with PT mentally. I get very depressed going into it. I went yesterday per my Drs. orders for my back. The therapist says it's my hips but she wants my Dr. to order some test on my back.

I hate PT and it depresses me just to think of doing it but I know that if I don't do this, I might get worse.

Do any of you feel this way with PT? I have been very depressed since I saw my Dr. Friday and he mentioned it.

Thanks for the help,
Ada

Default PT

You should like PT, it should not be such a depressive thing. Maybe find a different PT. I started PT after C-3-7 and loved going. The excersises were gentle but firm and I was never asked to do more than I could. The session ended with massage that felt a bit ache but nothing bad. There were alot of smiles where I went and a general good feeling to the facility. I started at 4 weeks when I was still really in pain. This did not make my pain worse, but helped me not to spasm. If you are not being treated with real consideration to where you are physically, talk to your dr. These sessions are suppose to help you, if they arn't, talk to your dr. and do the excersises at home. Try to keep moving gently. ginnie

I used to go because I thought it was the right thing to do, and
I've always wanted to get better. so I've had 200 units of PT. I only stopped going when they told me I didn't have to go there anymore....

Sorry you find it so depressing. I hated the PT at my surgeon's office. Perhaps you need to find another therapist. I had a therapist I liked, but his facility was always too noisy and crowded for my head to handle. It's really hard to find a perfect set-up for patients like us. Maybe you can get the exercises and do them at home?

I'm fairly certain I should be in PT now. I still can't open bottles of water or heavy doors. My arms and shoulders are terribly thin. And I have tight muscles everywhere in my neck and shoulders. But I don't want PT. I want a nice therapeutic SPA. and I don't think insurance is going to cover THAT for me....

good luck. Sandy

Default Hi Girls,

Ginnie, it's not the Physical Therapist. I spent 4 years in PT for RSD, Fibro, TOS, and back problems. The Therapist I will have, was my PTist back 10 years ago. I like her. I also have another team I like but it's burnout or something. They don't make me do anything that I can't. It's just a feeling of when does it end? I think it's the feeling of it's not going to last that gets me.

Sandy, I bet you do need to be in PT to strengthen your arms. We just don't get enough exercise in the shape we're in.

Ginnie, I can't complain about the consideration I get. I have good medical care and most people can't say that. It's just that after awhile, you don't want to need it.

Thanks girls,
Ada
