My daughter had many blocks, both stellate and brachial. Some worked, some not so much. None were really very effective. The thinking at UVA was to do the block and head right down to PT. We have had more luck with ketamine than we ever had with any blocks. Good luck to you.

My third took a lot longer to impact me, but it did. And it did affect my mental status as far as my desire to try more things. Like getting dressed everyday, learning to ride the electric cart at the grocery, maybe it did moderate my pain enough that I could see I wanted to do more stuff. But it is wearing off and I can positively tell you it was working.

Patience,
grame

Only the first 2 blocks worked for me, and they only worked for 30 hours or so. After that, I didn't really get much pain relief from them. I had a total of 8 SGB and 1 LB. All of them were administered correctly because I exhibited the right side effects afterwards.

After I tried the blocks, I went on to Lidocaine infusions (about 20-30% effective) and then ketamine infusions. Ketamine is where I scored big time! There are lots of threads here on Neurotalk on the subject, if you want more info let me know....

Good luck, Sandy

Hi Vicky, sorry to hear about your unsuccessful SGB. My 2nd one on Wednesday did not work either, it actually caused more pain. Did your first 2 help any? Does the doctor have you scheduled for any more injections? Mine does and I am struggling with if I should do them or not. This is such a scary and all over the place condition, i never know what is good and what is bad. I would be interested to see replies to your question as I guess I need the same answers!! Good luck & keep updating!

Mine was a little different since it was for my right foot (I believe it was a lumbar sympathetic block), but my first 2 did nothing and the third one actually caused a flare up that was excruciating! Of course, the doctor didn't know what to say when I was crying in pain, except for "well you must not have RSD because otherwise it would have worked." The more people I talk to the more I realize that it doesn't always work. I decided to stop doing them. I get questioned by doctors all the time to do them again, but I just have this feeling inside of me that says I know my body better than they do and my body doesn't want to do any more. I know exactly how you feel about not knowing what to do, and I wish I had the right answer, but I'll be rooting for you whatever you decide!
