Unhappy RSD Ketamine COMA Procedure questions

Hi, everybody:

I have had RSD in my left knee since August 2001. I may also have Central Pain Syndrome, caused by my RSD. At the present time, I use Duragesic and MSIR for the control of my severe chronic pain, but my doctor might not be willing to prescribe these medications for years and years or for the rest of my life.

I am interested in the RSD Ketamine Coma Procedure. I emphasize the word "COMA".

Where is the RSD Ketamine Coma Procedure done in the world? I am willing to travel anywhere in the world if this might help my RSD pain. I am fully aware this treatment is dangerous (I am willing to sign a discharge so the hospital and doctors cannot be sued). I am also fully aware this treatment might not work for me; I just remember this proverb: "Who does not risk anything does not get anything." I am not sure the translation is correct, but I hope you get the idea.

How much, in U.S. dollars or in euros, does the RSD Ketamine Coma Procedure cost? Does this cost include hospitalization, doctors and nurses fees, food, lodging (when out of the hospital), etc...? Will this cost be higher if there are complications from this procedure? I understand the cost of traveling will vary depending on the country from which a person is leaving.

How do you get accepted (or refused) for the RSD Ketamine Coma Procedure? If you are not in the USA, how do you get (if you need it) a referral to see the doctor(s) doing this procedure, wherever it is done in the world? Do you know if people who have had RSD for about 10 years are eligible for this procedure or should I lie about (or not mention) the length of time I have had RSD, just so I can get this procedure? I am saying this because I strongly believe that people who have RSD all deserve a chance to get this procedure (if that is their wish, of course), no matter how long they have had their RSD. Even if this procedure could be less effective or totally ineffective when a person has had his/her RSD for such a long time, I am willing to give this procedure a try.

These are my main questions for the moment. I thank you very much for your understanding (you probably noticed, by my words, that I feel desperate) and for your information.

Priscilla

Let me first say that I am sorry that you have suffered this long. I am at 16 months and it is unbearable pain. I agree with you that if Ketamine is a way to help people then they should make it available to them however if you are on disability you are cut off and it is not available to you. It is considered a experimental drug and the insurance companies will not even consider. However workmans comp will provide this for you. But if you are willing to travel and want the "COMA" which as you I believe is the only way to go then you must travel to Germany which is where they perform the "COMA". It has been noted that in Mexico they have started to perform it but it is fairly new there. I however cannot tell you how much the cost would be but I would say that you can properly get some of that information from your Neurologist and a recommendation also if you needed it. I can give you the percentage that they list for Ketamine at the "COMA' stage. They say that 80% of people come back to full health and that the rest come back to about half of a recovery. The odds of nothing happening with the COMA Ketamine are pretty low on everything that I have studied out and believe me I have studied! Good luck! I hope that everything works out for you! And I hope that you get a full recovery!!!!

Hi, Angelgurl:

You are right; suffering from RSD severe chronic pain for almost ten years (I have had RSD since August 25, 2001) is very hard because of its very long duration. So many web sites, some of which are supposed to be reliable, claim RSD and its pain last from a few weeks to several months, then they heal by themselves or are cured by doctors. Many of us, RSD sufferers, know this is completely wrong. We might even live with RSD and its pain for the rest of our life, which could mean decades for those of us who are still at a young age. However, I sincerely hope your RSD will disappear by itself or be cured. It does happen and maybe you will be one of these lucky ones.

What kind of treatments (medications, physical therapy, etc.) do you use to control your RSD and its pain?

I am not on disability. I am not on Workman's Compensation. I got my RSD because I was struck and injured by a car while crossing the street on a crosswalk. The lawyer who supposedly defended me against the woman who hurt me did such a poor job that I got no money to pay my medical bills and to compensate for my pain and suffering. I cannot afford to pay these bills; even if I could, I would not pay them because I am not responsible for the "accident".

Quote: "It is considered an experimental drug the insurance companies will not even consider." You are right; the public health insurance company I am on refuses to pay for experimental treatments.

I read on a health forum that Dr. Rohr in Germany does not perform the RSD Ketamine Coma Procedure anymore. Why? I have no idea. Could it be because he was under much pressure from and threatened by his peers and other people, who could not admit that a doctor would voluntarily put a person under a coma for a non life threatening disease? Anyone who knows the truth, feel free to share it with us.

I will try to find out if the RSD Ketamine Coma Procedure is done in Mexico. I hope it is; otherwise what hope is left for those who want to try it?

Since the percentage of success for the RSD Ketamine Coma Procedure is so high (to me, 80% is high enough), I am willing to take some risks in the hope of seeing my RSD cured. What a wonderful day it would be if this happened.

Quote: "The odds of nothing happening with the COMA Ketamine are pretty low on everything that I have studied out and believe me I have studied!" This gives me even more reasons to want to try this procedure.

Do you plan on trying this procedure in Mexico?

I thank you for your kind words. When people, such as me, suffer without any support from the family, people like you can make our day and give us back a smile with such kind words. Thank you again!

Priscilla
