I need to go out tommorow and my one foot is SO swollen. There is no way I am gonna be able to wear a shoe! My feet won't fit! It is swelling more than it EVER has today! It is crazy....

What do you do about this?

Do you own any slip on shoes? eg shoes without backs? can't remeber what they are called. Any how - get a pair of scissors and cut directly down the front of the shoe for until it will cover the foot - typically need a 2 inch cut or so.

or slippers - same thing can be done.

I imagine that with skate shoes/ trainers if you just took the laces out that would work? I personally always used to use the top one before my legs twisted.

at least 80 % of the time....they are wide, soft and so comfy....i have even worn them to the store without realizing it until too late.....

i love sketchers too...they are the backless ones and they stretch..................

Do you have someone that may ahve injured a gfoot and ahs an ortho show. It is rubber sole with canves shoe top that velcros across your foot. If you time in theAM maybe the doctor can send an order to a medical suppy and have you fitted for one ASAP. If not a inexpensive pair of KEDS white canves sized bigger, take the lace out...
I hope the swelling goes down soon.

Unfortunately the slip on shoes are gonna be way too tight. And my clogs have heels- no way I am wearing heels in my state!

I might have to wear a few pairs of socks!

I do hope this swelling stops soon- but it just keeps on getting worse and worse.

Hi In His Hands--I'm sorry that your foot is so swollen and painful. Is there some way someone can get you a LARGE pair of those bedroom slippers that are ussually made out of soft terry that look like "spa slippers"--maybe the men's type so you can get them large enough to fit your bad foot. Aorund here, they are usually found at the Pharmacy Chains (can I post names)--well here goes--Longs, Wal-mart, Rite-aide or K-mart, and are inexpensive. Gosh, they are kind of hard to desrcibe--no backs, an open toe and a wide strip that goes across the top of you foot. When a friend broke her foot and it was the size of Cincinatti, that kind of men's slipper was the only thing she could get to fit.
(She painted her toe-nails a crazy colour, just to "liven things up" a bit!)

I hope your swelling goes down and you can find SOMETHING comfortable.

try leather ballet slippers. Not the pointe shoes, but just the slippers. I get them in my regular size and one or two sizes bigger so whaen my feet swell up I can still have something on my feet.

Just a quick other thought - in the UK we get sock boots - which are really big (fluffy) socks which then have grips on the bottom. They are quite good (and soft and warm)

Hey! I had to go to physical therapy yesterday with a shoe on one foot and just a sock on the other (it was swollen 2x it's normal size!)... my therapist was shocked to see how much it had swollen, and he measured both feet, and my left was about 1 1/2- 2 inches bigger than my right!

After my therapy mom took me to get a pair of extra wide shoes... pretty hard to find when you already have wide size 11 shoes! The lady in the shoe dept. was real sweet and took the time to bring out around 10 different shoes, but they were all too small/ had heels/ no open back. I ended up getting a pair of "Crocs" (they are clogs that are like hard foamy material) in men's size 12! They just fit with my swollen foot, and I had to get something to wear. I'll tell you, they aren't the most attractive, but they work! LOL! The only thing is there is teeny up-raised knobby type things sticky up in the bottom, so I have to put a sock there so I don't feel like they are stabbing me really really hard (I already feel that way trying to walk, and when I add those things on the bottom of the clogs, it makes it SO much worse!)...

...well, I found something anyways!

what colour crocs did you get? they are awesome!! I Want a pair!!! (but, I am refusing to buy more shoes until I can wear them again - haven't worn them in 5 years - stopped wearing them because of the hypersensitivity and the swelling (used to get ulcers if anything pressurey touched me). Mum spent about $120 on a really soft pair of shoes that were similar to baby bootees for me - but haven't managed to desense into them (1 year on from getting them).

Shame the crocs are spiky.. hope the swelling eases up soon. I used to have a sheet of paper on my bedroom wall where we recorded how the swelling was - measured big toe, foot, ankle, calf, knee, thigh, finger, thumb, wrist, elbow. It is really pleasing to look at the chart when you have a good period with the swelling and look back at how it's improved. Also, it's useful for drs to see the fluctuations in the condition.
