I have RSD in my back....

IHH,
I have RSD in my lower back from SCS surgeries. I haven't had the pains that stab into my belly and abdomen, like you are explaining, but I DO have pain that stabs through my hip. My Right Hip, which is on the leg that has RSD. Stupid hip will try to "Lock up" for unknown reasons, and HURT like all get out! But, it will go away, and be back to whatever is "normal" these days once I get off of it and get sat down and situated and rest it a while, I guess.

I do think that going to get an MRI and other stuff would be a really good idea. It is so easy for us to just either ignore things that hurt, or to blame RSD for all of our pain and problems. That is kinda dangerous to do. While I know that I have RSD in my lower back, I also know that I have problems with disks there too, along with some god awful pain from endometriosis that hits me at least once a month and makes it feel like I will snap in two if I have to try to bend over. So, I have to try to pay attention to what is going on, and if things hurt worse then "normal" or last longer then they usually do, or are just plain different kinds of pain, or new things that I haven't had happen before....and then go and talk to my doc about it, and get sent in for all of those lovely tests, pics and what not.

I hope that everything is ok...and I hope that you can figure out for sure what this pain is, and that it will be able to be gotten under control soon. It sounds very scary and awful!

PS..Jo? I have seen you ask a few times if RSD causes muscle spasms and cramping and what not. I don't know if anyone has ever answered you? So, I will tell you that most definitely YES!!! RSD can cause some HORRIBLE spasms and cramps and jerks and other such stuff. I have had muscle spasms in my back that radiate up wards, and make it hurt to breathe. Also, that just Seize Up all of a sudden and make you gasp out loud because of the unexpected and horrible pain of it. I have had my muscles in my leg and foot spasm and cramp and generally freak out so bad, that my calf muscles are either hard as rocks, or quivering and twitching and hurting like hell, have my foot being pulled in all kinds of painful, unnatural positions.

The spasms and such are one of the reasons that people with lower body RSD have a hard time sitting at the computer for very long, and you will read about us having to "take breaks" or "get up and down" and what not. We are trying to either relieve or head off some pretty horrendous (sp?) muscle pain.

Anyway, like I said, I didn't know if anyone had ever answered your questions about Muscle Spasms and what not being caused by RSD...so I thought that I would, while I had it on my mind.

Hope that you are having a good day today!
