Default Don't know if I should be happy or upset about blood test results

Just got a call from doc office. I have very low iron- level is 9, He wants me to have 2 ferritin IVs in the next two weeks. My biggest complaint is muscle wasting...since iron carrys 02 maybe that lack of oxygen has been causing the problems (some of them)..I also have an elevated Parathyroid hormone level so he wants me to see an endocronologist...

Any thoughts?

Debbie

Dear Debbie -

I don't have anything of substance to share, but in terms of process . . . I can't see any downside in getting a very smart endocrinologist involved.

Good luck!

You also need a vit D test.... very low D creates elevated parathyroid hormone as a secondary feature.

Almost all doctors are now testing vit D as a regular practice.
You will need a good level to function well, at 50 or more.
Many people with chronic pain issues are testing very very low.

The RX version given by doctors doesn't work:

http://www.newswise.com/articles/vie...%3A+MedNews%29

The RX Version is D2, and plant derived... it is not active in human bodies.

Doctors continue to use this poor product after testing you.
What a waste!

OTC D...is D3...the active form. You can buy it online 50,000IU and below. I personally take 10,000 IU daily. (after my testing showed that 5,000 wasn't doing enough at a level of 43.)

edit... that link has changed:

Seriously?? This wacky world of medicine is making me nuts. i am really starting to believe that they dont want us well at all!
keeping us sick makes them way more money then keeping us well.

i am so glad you replied to this MrsD!

I too went through the low iron. I went into a bad flare and went to the hospital my doctor did all blood test and I was severely low in iron, vit D, vit A, vit E, I went into the hospital for 2 weeks each day I was given IV vitamins and a lot of iron. I still now have to take 2 iron pills every other day, beging of every week I take a vit d pill with 12,000 mg and am on various other vitamin pills and supplements. One thing I have heard is most anyone with cronic pain whether rsd or back pain, fibro. ect. all seem to end up low vit D. I was in the pain program in cleveland clinic and everyone in the program were severely low with vit D and that was 27 people with different pain issues but we all had that one thing in common and not one doctor could understand why. Do follow up with the endocronologist for the thyroid as I too started having issues with mine and I eventually got hypothyroidism which they couldnt understand why as it was perfect then within a few months it went down and then it began swelling. The doctors took the fluid out to see what it was but they said it was nothing. In a week it swelled up a week and began to become very pain full so we, my mom and I pushed for the to remove it. I know surgery isnt an option with RSD but I just knew something was wrong. Then after the surgery they came out and told us that they thank us for insisting on the removal of it as to find out the whole thing was cancer and they missed it. If I had just put it of the cancer they said could of gone into my throat and scull. We just always need to listen to what our bodies are telling us and not always go with the doctors as there are many time they just dont have a clue. Along with my thyroid going wrong I have 5 other friends with RSD who since of getting it their thyroids are either messed up or needed to be taken out. The doctors only think this is happening is because we all have severely low immune systems but isnt sure.

Thanks for your responses..The doctor told me the low iron and parathyroid are not causing my pain to get worse. I was very disappointed b/c I thought there was something we could do to make things a bit better....Thanks for the parathyroid info...I was wondering if I had to have surgery- if there is a tumor there, how invasive it would be. I guess I am jumping the gun though. This week is the iron infusion,,and next week the endo...
Right now I believe my vitamin D is ok but will double chcck

The best iron supplement is Ferrochel. It doesn't hurt your stomach and in a matter of weeks it reverses iron deficiency anemia completely. It's turly works like a miracle. Just posting this info in case someone is looking for a good supplement.
