I will be having gallbladder surgery soon. I have rsd in my right foot and ankle. Are there any precautions I or my doc should take to avoid flares or spread?

when I have surgery they give me a dose of the pain med that works for me IV which is demerol but whatever works for you should work then during the surgery they hook me up to ketamine and leave me on it for 5 days after it. when I wake up after the surgeyr they give me my pain meds IV right away and give it to me every 2 hours to keep pain down. They also keep me on oxygeon I dont know how it helps but it seems to work. When the surgery was below my waist they did a epidural for 5 days to keep me numb.
hope this helps Sam |

If they say don't worry about it, that's NOT a good answer and you should tell them as much. There are things that can be done to calm down the nervous system(s). Blocks, IVs, certain meds, vitamin C therapy, etc. Because CRPS is still so widely misunderstood, even in 2012 you can run into surgeons and anesthesiologists who aren't versed on this condition. |

Ketamine quites the mind and the nerves it basically numbs the nerves. This is why its used mainly for surgery on children and on animals.
