Default Trip to the ER last night.

Susan took me to the ER last night. I called my PCP and he sent me there due to chest pain. I have delt with this off and on for years but they haven't been able to diagnose it.

We spent 5 hours in there and I made them get things done so Susan could get home and get some rest. My bloodwork and test was ready and the Dr. just didn't get to it. They said they were very busy, I know one of my friends was there and I am going to check on him today. Susan thinks he might have tried to kill himself but she didn't want to ask his family. They didn't see her. If it had been me I would have walked up and just asked. I'm not shy anymore. LOL

Anyway, they have decided I either have Gastritis or Mitral Valve Prolapse. I will be getting some test ran. As far as I know I am still having the surgery. I haven't talked to my PCP to see what he thinks but I want to go ahead with it. I guess I just have this attitude anything can happen anywhere so it doesn't matter where you are and what you are doing.

I read up on both this morning and I don't know which it might be that I am dealing with. I had the symptoms of both since they have a lot of the same symptoms.

They put me on Nitro and Lopressor. I had been put on Nitro years ago but I just forget I have it.

He thinks the stress of everything I am going through brought this back on. I liked this Dr. he reminded me so much of my PCP. He said he had been a PCP for 25 years before coming here to work in the ER. Very nice. He sat and talked to me and Susan about his family and me and Bill and how he feels like I should deal with our anniversary coming up.

I just get really frustrated that I have delt with this for over 7 years and the Drs. can't figure out for sure what it is.

whew Ada you are a busy gal! I'm glad it wasn't anything horribly wrong.

I guess everyone has to find their own way of dealing with anniversaries and special dates after a loss of a loved one.
I hope you can find a way that is best for you.

HI Ada,

I'm sorry you have this to go through. I know it's been hard year for you with your loss, too.

Did the hospital er suggest an echocardiogram? That is how my mitral valve stenosis was found and they determined i had had rheumatic fever twice when young though I don't rememebr that only some rounds of flu and high fever. I get those echo test every year now.

Sometimes, i was told, women present with diff symptoms than men re heart probs. My valve situation was found after and echocardiogram. For years prior to that, beginning when i was 17, i had said i had some probs. Now and then a doc would hear a click in the valve but nothing was done about it. So i went through my adult years none the wiser. Now along with the stenosis in the valve i have atrial fib and even blockages in the heart. I'm on meds and such.

Prolapse can be varying degrees. Mine began as a prolapse and was changed to stenosis.

I hope you can get to the bottom of this. I know there were some posts re rsd and the heart connection. My cardio (now) knew about rsd when i first saw him but he hasnt exactly said there is a connection for me with my probs but sometimes i wonder.
All the best, take care
Ina

Default Hi Ina,

The Dr. at the ER did give me a paper to have the echocardiagram. I haven't talked to my PCP yet but I would say it will be sat up soon.

When I called him last night he pulled my file and said that I had been in for the heart problems in 1998 and 2003 and that I needed to go in to the ER to be checked out.

In 98 I had an angiogram that showed CAD and I also had a stress test that showed I had a heart attack and I had a brain scan that had showed a stroke. They put me on nitro, procardia and Imdur but I had trouble taking them so I didn't.

Then in 2003 I had another angiogram and it showed basically the same. I dont' have a heart Dr. now though. I didn't like the one I had at all and I just never looked for another one and after all of the problems Bill was having finding a good one around here I didn't bother.

My problem has been that I have TOS and Costo in the chest area and they have had problems seperating them all and one gets the other one going. I laid in that bed last night and my TOS started going from the chest pain. I made them let me go. I actually took the blood pressure cuff off and the thing off my finger that reads the pulse. I couldn't do the IV or I would have. After 5 hours I had to get out of that bed.

My PCP has always had to get me out of the hospital early because of the chest pain problems. I start having panic attacks due to the chest pain.

Like you I get felt like I wasn't getting enough done by my heart Dr. and my PCP does keep an eye on me so I just didn't go back to the one I had.

As far as the RSD I have been told that I have RSD in the chest area too but I sometimes wonder if that is the case with me.

What got me last night in that hospital though, they never ask me any questions about my past problems and they tried to put me on Protonix. They didn't even notice I was already on Prevacid. When I told the nurse she ask the Dr. and he said just to stick with the Prevacid if it works. They don't even pay attention to what they wrote down.
