Shocked leg shrinking

Hello to all. In spite of several months of physical therapy my rsd leg is now a half inch shorter than my other leg. I don't understand how this happened while I was working so hard to prevent it from happening.Does anyone know if there is anything I can do to fix this or at the very least to keep it from getting worse? I've tried 4 different therapists, one of whom specialized in rsd and still this is happening. Is there anything else I could try. I've only had rsd for 1 and a half years and I'm astounded at how much mobility I've lost in such a short time. I'm frightened to think about what lies ahead.Any input would be appreciated...thanks to all.

Have they done a bone scan?
I didn't realize the leg would get shorter - I thought it would be more a muscle wasting issue.
But I remember reading that the bones do thin with adv RSD? {i could be mistaken}

You're sure it's the actual leg being short? not hip or pelvis tilting causing it to seem shorter?

I'm sure the pros here can help address this topic much better than I can.

Thanks Jo...Yes, they did a bone scan that confirmed the rsd diagnosis and the doctor actually measured my leg when I noticed the difference . He told me it was probably always that way!!!! { Like I wouldn"t have noticed}.I read somewhere that the ligaments and tendons will shrink the longer the limb doesn't work properly ...maybe that is what has happened. But, thanks for your input.

Have you seen a chiropractor? My Dr. says nothing can be done about one leg being shorter than the other. But, I went to my chiro and he said that is not true. it is usually cause by muscles shifiting and pulling. A bone scan won't pick that up. He does a quick little massage thing on my back and buttocks, and I walk out with my legs the same length again. It doesn't last long right now, but he repeats it every week, and says if I get healthy, and don't develop more muscle issues he may be able to get it to stay that way.
Just my two cents. Hope it helps.

Yes, I tied a chiropractor early on when the rsd started. He was great
but right now it is too painful to have anyone work on my foot.But, thanks for the idea.

I think Trix is right on the stretching part. My arms got shorter from drawing up with the RSD and TOS and my Physical Therapist stretched my arms and fingers a lot and now I ***** because my arms are too long for some of my tops and sweaters, not lying. I use to complain that Bill had arms like an ape and I couldn't find shirts to fit him, now I have that problem in clothes.

My right calf is smaller then my large. I can tell that from looking in the mirror and it is noticable. I do have RSD in the right foot and leg up to my hip so I felt like it has something to do with the RSD.

We do know our bodies better then Drs. do. Most don't think we do.

Have a good day.

1 leg being shorter than the other can be resolved by a chiropractic adjustment. It means that one of your hips is out of alignment in the si joint.

It's not painful to have a chiro fix this.
