Default Dr's so easily diagnose RSD MUST be STOPPED!

I had to share this story with you all.

Yesterday I brought my 14 yr old daughter to children's hospital in boston to for an injury to her thumb from a lacrosse stick hitting her a few weeks ago. I spoke with someone on the phone who said she could have a fracture to the scaphoid bone.

When the first doctor came into the room, within 2 minutes he said that she had Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome!!!! He didn't even look at the notes that said that she was there for evaluation of a bone fracture! He then referred us to pain management.

I told him that first of all, she didn't meet all of the diagnostic criteria to make a diagnosis of rsd(crps) and that ALL other things needed to be ruled out first. He then went to get the Chief of the department.

The chief came in and said that he knew all about rsd because his father had it from a shot in the shoulder during the war! What that had to do with my daughter, I don't know. I then told him about my story and his response was, "are you sure it wasn't prayer that helped you?".

My daughter was hysterical at this point. Can you imagine what was going thru her mind?

I am filing a formal complaint with the hospital and will do whatever is needed to make those 2 doctors NEVER do this to another child. They didn't follow the guidelines of diagnosing RSD never mind the fact that they didn't even order the correct test(a cat scan) to diagnose a fractured schaphoid bone beacuse they never read the office notes.

It is not right that doctors can walk into a room and quickly make a diagnosis of RSD. This has to stop. At least I know enough to look somewhere else to get my daughter medical care but that is only because of my experience. Another parent would have no idea and be bringing their child to pain management to begin blocks today instead of looking into the broken bone.

I can't believe that this happened to my child.

I can't believe that things have not changed since 2001 when the same thing happened to me.

I can't believe that if has happend in my family twice - how many other people are out there with fixable problems who are told it's crps(rsd).

I am sorry for ranting but this has to stop. Doctors take an oath to DO NO HARM.

What came out of there mouths yesterday - DID HARM to my child and these doctors need to face some consequences for it.
