If the cost of perscriptions is not able to use for SSi, why can;t it be deducted to the medicaide program...not medicare, but apply for the program that picks up the gap when your income is reduced due to your medical needs. My daughter had the card and it came from our local welfare office. It also covered the cost of the medicare part B portion....When she reached her gap in Feb, they picked up everything!

I just thought they may fit there.

There is a section where individuals can get help with meds on that page. (also dialysis)

Hello: Many, many thanks to all of you who answered my post. The husband was able to get the needed prescription yesterday evening. He missed a few doses, but now has what he needs.

The veteran's administration was able to help. His wife has to drive about 50 miles one way twice a week, but is happy to do so. The prescription is a liquid that must be refrigerated so only a small amount can be filled at a time.

Our medical system is in need of a serious overhaul. There is no way an elderly person living alone without a computer and unable to drive would have been able to get medicine in the same situation. These same people, when they were young and strong, fought our wars, raised families, plowed fields, and built roads to make our country what it is today, are left to fend for themselves. They deserve better.

I will climb right up on that soapbox with you. My step-daughter said she thinks her Mom died due to not being able to get the meds after she fell through that donut hole. Bill fell through it for a few months also and we couldn't get his meds. He was with a company that was paying for all of his and when this law went into effect somehow they thought he should start paying hundreds of dollars through them. He had to find another company to go through and got his free. There was no way we should have fell through that hole.

DiMarie, I know what you are talking about because Bill had Medicare and Medicaid and Social Services paid his medicare monthly payment that would have come out of his check. You would have thought he would have been ok but he wasn't.

How many people have we lost because of that donut hole. I won't even go into who put it there because that goes into specifics but I would bet he gets some of the money from the Pharmaceutical companies, Utility Companies and Oil Companies.

If it was suppose to help people how did it go from helping people get meds for free to not getting them at all. I saw that through our MS neighbor, Bill. He got his free until the donut hole was made.

You know why they call it a donut hole don't you? Because they are getting fat off of all of those people that they refer to as donut holes. They are eating them alive.

This is an issue that people should write their stories and send to the Govs, Senators, State Reps. and who ever else you think might listen.

OK, I'll climb down now girls before we push each other off. Don't know how big that soapbox is. LOL

Check with the manufacturing company and see if you can get them from the company that makes that drug.
