I have had a tooth extraction and a root canal. Both times I have been left with continual pain.

Has anyone else had to deal with this as well?

I'm not sure how true it is or not...but I have heard that when you have RSD you should avoid root canals as some people have experienced spread after this procedure. I am having a lot of dental work done this year and last month I had 4 teeth extracted. I told the dentist no root canals and that's why we pulled a couple of them as they needed either root canals or to be extracted (so I went with extraction). The dentist does not think that not having root canals will cause any problems with my dental work so long as I know that means we will have to pull any teeth that need them and work with the available options after that.

I did have severe pain after my extractions in one spot (I had all four pulled at once) but that was because I had a dry socket. I went back to the dentist a couple of times to get it treated and taken care of. Dry sockets are common (and the word AGONY doesn't even describe how painful) after extractions so I would make sure that's not what you have. They might also be able to see if there's something else that's causing the pain. Sometimes when you have teeth pulled it makes the other teeth around it sensitive for a while.

Get it checked out. If the dentist has no answers then get to your RSD doctor right away to treat any possible spread of the RSD or to see if they have any other ideas about what could be causing the pain.

Having just been through the whole dry socket mess (which took about 3 weeks after the extraction to go away) I do not envy you right now. I'm saving up for the next step in the work I need done and I am secretly very happy about that because it means I will have to put off the work for a few months...

Your not alone with this one. I have had nothing but problems with my teeth since I have had CRPS. If you can avoid root canals, I would consider it. Every time had a root canal ,I had to have the tooth extracted. My other teeth have become very soft and I have to watch what I eat and how I chew. I talked to my dentist about this and he gave me a script for a high floride toothpaste and told me to rinse with warm salt water 2 times a day. I have had 5 teeth extracted with in a years time. My pain management Dr. thinks it is due to the multiple high end pain meds I take each day. It zapa the body of Calcium. Talk to you Dr. and Dentist and see if supplements might help. My daughter is a Holistic Nutrionist and has me eating steamed broccoli. It is high in nutrients that help to promote strong teeth and bones.
Other then that, I can't offer anymore advise. But, it is a common issue with patients with RSD/CRPS. Good luck!
