I had to chuckle when I realized something today. We all know we have to learn to adapt with our new limitations and abilities. Since I am still "new" in my diagnosis, April is 6 months now, my Physical Therapist has told me to try and use my arm as much as possible without causing pain. Things like not self-slinging, or doing the dishes with it but stopping BEFORE it starts hurting. That is very difficult by the way. This evening as I got a drink if water, I held the cup while it filled and took a few drinks, before switching hands, and it hit me. Something so incredibly, stupid, and simple as getting a drink IS my physical therapy. It's like exercise for my arm, good grief........too bad it doesn't work that way for the rest of my body!!

Ive had this thought to. I was picking tomatos the other day and though wow i can do this now and its good for me.
I do wonder what others much think when they see us using our rsd limb like this. I can see why people doubt us. Sometimes it makes me doubt myself...but then it hurts and i remember its real. lol |

Yeah, the trick about stopping before it starts hurting is pretty lame......lol. Sometimes the ridiculousness of what we have to deal just hits me and I lose it! Then it settles in and I think , ya know....it's just not that funny anymore....lol

I think that all the time about my knee! Just getting up the stairs to the bathroom a few times a day, and getting around for food and simple things is quite a lot of physio!! Some days I find it hard to do the actual physio because a normal day has my knee hurting early on anyway...
Finding that happy balance is the hardest thing we do I think. You've got to laugh... Bram. |
