Another one hotting up outside now.....the wind is really rising fast.... It's been one storm after another recently. The river near us is really high and has burst its banks now, the water is close to coming over the road nearby (luckily we are safely on a bit of a hill). More rain now is the last thing a lot of folk will be wanting, and I feel so sorry for all those who have had their Christmas completely ruined by the weather in one way or another....

Losing our power on Christmas afternoon really brought it home to us how awful it must be to have no power for days on end. No heat, no lights, basic cooking at best, no hot water... I know many folk in the world are dealing with far worse, but it makes you think how much we all rely on this complex energy system, and how little it takes for everything to just break down.

Take care again UK folk, and good luck if you're getting these high winds tonight.

Bram.

Stay safe everyone in the UK. Sorry to hear you are dealing with so much stormy weather. If you have a fireplace, keep it blazing!

Brambledog 12-27-2013 03:21 AM

Lol Lottie, I love my fireplace :D cosy cosy thing... We've shut the back plate to reduce draughts last night (we'd been out all day so it wasn't lit), but my chimney is still making mournful comedy noises with all this wind!

I have been totally lacking on posting and I am tonight at some crazy 3 a.m. hour getting caught up on everyone. Gosh I love insomnia! Anywho, how are things now Bram? Are things settling down now and all cylinders firing? I sure hope that you, your property and everything / everyone else is all okay. Gosh, sounds like the rains we had here this fall. It can be quite frightening.... and on Christmas no less.. ugh!

Helloooooooo Vrae :)

Sorry you're up at such a bizarre time of the night girl, hope you got some sleep in the end! Hope it's not been too bad CRPS-wise for you to be up and posting at that hour...

I'm ok thanks, we're just having one storm after another this last couple of weeks, and all the ground is just waterlogged. There's nowhere else for the rain to go, so the river levels just keep rising. It's been really odd - we have one storm with high winds and rain, then a couple of quiet days with clear blue skies and cold weather, and then another storm comes in. It's getting a bit old! We're lucky to be up on a hill, so we won't be flooded unless its the end of the world type flooding

I wouldn't say all cylinders are firing lol, but I'm doing ok :winky:

LOL... sorry, now that I think about it, I guess that was a bad term to have used but I was thinking the electricity and such in your home when I said "all cylinders are firing". :) Well, at least you're at the top of a hill. End of the world type flooding... I sure hope not too, but should that come to pass, make friends with people who have boats... quick! Hi, you have a boat and you're my new best friend!

All kidding aside, the weather has been really, really weird here too. Subarctic one day and near 60 (omg in Dec? in Denver?) degrees the next. I feel for those on the east coast here as many have been without electricity for many days due to ice storms and unrelenting cold.

Thanks for asking, but no, my insomnia was because my husband made these delish cappuccinos, and I had two late in the evening. What the hell was I thinking?!

Hi Bram, sounds like crummy weather. I hate cold rain, that is the worst for my symptoms. Does your region get snow? We got about 4 inches recently but its gone already.

Brambledog 12-31-2013 06:05 AM

Morning' Lottie :)

We don't really do proper snow in the UK now :D. The deep, dig-out-of-the-door, can't drive in it, can't shop without a sledge snows of my childhood winters seem to have disappeared from the south where I am...good old global warming (not good at all). What we are good at is mild, wet, windy, miserable, can't-plan-anything weather lol. That's what we have going on at the moment...not freezing cold, but unpredictable, mild, and wet, with the barometer going up and down like a pea in a glass of water :winky: and of course the floods we are getting very good at. I live in a very low area near a river, and quite often at the moment we have a small sea around us!

Crummy weather is an absolutely perfect definition :) in fact I'll contact the Met Office and suggest they redefine our climate in general as 'crummy'. Haha.

Bram.

I am so tired of this now. We are between storms this afternoon, with another due this evening, and a biggie over the weekend. Where I am nearly all the green fields around us are under an inland sea since Christmas, everything is just soaked through. We have standing water on our patio where the ground beneath just can't take any more water.... There is so much real misery out there, and communities in much of the country who have been under water for weeks. Farmland that will take years to recover, crops and livelihoods lost, and countless thousands of wild creatures drowned and starving. It's horrible. We might not get the visually impressive weather like tornadoes, but when it comes to miserable weather we can really go some. We've never had a run of storms like this, one after the other for weeks on end. Sea walls built of granite three hundred years ago have been punched through and scattered like pebbles.

The pain is just up and down all the time. It is the air pressure changes that cause the worst of the pain and symptoms for me, and at the moment the weather here is like a roller coaster and has been for weeks. My tolerance to it is just getting less by the day. This morning we are between two big low pressure systems, the skies have cleared in a bizarre taunting move, and the sun is out. The air pressure has risen for a while. And I hurt. I hurt everywhere. My hips and my calves, my back, my shoulder, my side, my knee, my thigh, my feet, my ankle. My skin burns. Last night I had a strange new repeating muscle spasm in the left side of my back that made me jump and arch my back. Good grief. I feel like I need three days solid sleep...

I dread this evening. The pressure will plummet again, and my spirits with it. I mean FFS when will this end? :(

Sorry to moan on.

Bram.

Nanc 02-07-2014 01:23 PM

Don't apologize for moaning Bram, seriously you have every right to moan all you want. And we will be here for you to listen! That weather you are having does sound horrible. Is it supposed to continue for a while? We keep having weather changes, but not so much rain. It is warm one day and freezing (and snowing) the next. We have had several systems coming in this next week. It is nice, sunny and warmer today and messy stuff is coming this weekend and most of next week. I think this is one thing that is not helping me too much!

My niece's baby shower is Sunday and I hope that I am in better shape there then than I am now. It is gonna be at my mom's house and I ordered the gifts online an had them shipped to my mom so we wouldn't have to transport them.

I am so frustrated too Bram. Hope your weather and pain lightens up soon!

Nanc
