Default Best Worst Day

Yesterday was the day from hell with some amazing bright spots.

I had to deal with a bunch of SSD crap. I'm on my first appeal and just ugh! I spent an hour in the social security office waiting to see someone, and tucked myself into a corner out of the way as much as possible since there is just no way I could sit in one of their plastic chairs without wanting to kill myself from the pain. Well apparently parenting isn't a thing around here. A preschool aged kid who was accompanied by both parents was left to run rampant and wild all around the place, never mind that it was full of old and disabled people. Eventually he ran up faster than I could do anything about it and stomped straight on my left foot and rammed his head into my thigh. I disentangled myself from the brat (I'd be sorry for my viewpoint, but at this point I have little tolerance for children who are so wildly out of control with inattentive parents who give zero craps, so I'm not) but it was too late. I was in tears from pain, it felt like my foot was broken although I obviously knew better and my leg was on fire worse than ever, toe to hip. I still had to wait another half hour to be helped, but after gasping and crying out in pain from their brat running into me they kept him away from me. (But made no effort to keep him away from old people with canes trying to walk.)

I finished up my errands with a run to the grocery store where I had to call customer service about an allergen in a product. I got someone super knowledgeable which was a rare thing and really just cheered me up. Then, as I was getting into my jammies and checking my email and such I noticed that there was going to be a lunar eclipse last night. I checked the weather report and it looked good. After my nap, the weather was awesome. And although it was 34 degrees at 1:00 when it peaked, the sky was perfect and I got my geek on watching the eclipse with my husband on our porch.

I seriously shorted myself on sleep. I knew that today was a rare day I would be working. (I'm a substitute teacher for a college class my best friend teaches.) But it was so worth it to stay up late. It's really amazing how a few good experiences can really make a crappy day (or week) better. Today is already rough, and will only get rougher, but I know I can at least go home and hit the sack. My husband got offered 2 days of overtime instead of 2 days off today and tomorrow so I can recover without worry about missing out on time with him and woohoo money!

So even on what was one of the roughest days I've ever had, I still had a silver lining. I try to stay positive, find my silver linings, and laugh when I can. Because the alternative is just too horrible and sad to think about. I hope you all find your silver lining today or something to make you smile.

Thanks for sharing. Inattentive parents are one of my pet peaves as well.
Good luck with the SSD - I know it's sooo much paper work.
Glad you get to rest up!

Sorry you had such a rough day but so happy that it ended on a good note. Like you, I try to stay positive. My husband says that his job is to make me laugh at least once every day and even during the worst possible days, he succeeds! Those inattentive parents with the wild kids is one of my biggest pet peeves.

I can totally relate to that kid stepping on your foot...ouch! My neighbor kid did that to me a week or so ago. Hope you are doing better today! Oh, and good luck on your SSD claim!

Most people I know can't let go of a heap of shyt in order to be present to such wonders as that magnificent eclipse. I'm sure it wasn't easy to stay up so late and be up to your duties the next day, but I'm impressed and delighted to meet someone who lives like that ... what an attitude you've chosen!

Being able to let go of baggage and then open oneself fearlessly to possibly wonderful things is a large dollop of wisdom, a gift of huge proportions. I'm so sorry for all the paperwork & kids left to raise themselves, but your report of a silver lining will stay with me and no doubt lead me to silver linings I might have been ranting too much to notice.

Thank you!!

I also have a husband whose goal is to make me laugh every day. Having someone like him has really helped me keep my attitude in check. Doing things like pushing through for the eclipse or remembering to be thankful for someone who went the extra mile for me really helps me. It reminds me that there is more to life than CRPS and celiac, that I am more than some stupid disease. It seems that it's the worst days that I need those reminders the most. So I've started appreciating even the smallest things. Even when it means all I can appreciate is the fact that I managed to get out for 5 minutes to water my seeds in the beautiful spring sun.

It's the little things that make up the strongest fabric of our lives, Adelaide. It's easy to forget that, with million dollar lotteries, promises of bigger and better everything if you wear the right clothing label ... our perspectives & expectations just seem way more than they used to be.
You are a lot more than your disease, and that's your doing. I know your husband and friends flourish (and are happy to go that extra mile) because you don't take it as your due and let them know in small ways how grateful you are that they're in your life.
I know your must have times when life seems all a bit too much, but I'm so glad you've built a support group and use it wisely.
I hope you're one who has no trouble reaching out and asking for a shoulder to lean on or a helping hand when you're facing a new challenge.
Have a lovely spring and take best care.
