Default Sublingual B12?

Between back pain that won't let me sit close to upright (I have to be almost fully reclined), and absolutely no energy whatsoever, I have begun to feel totally useless; to the point where I have to do something.

I saw part of an infomercial months ago that talked about sub-lingual vit B12 being better than tablets but not as good as B12 injections. That's all I know about vit B12 except it is supposed to help some people regain energy.

Anyway, I realized I had to do something at about 10:00 last night. I could not spend another night wishing I had the energy to write a reply I should have written two weeks ago, so I sent my grandson to Wal-Mart to buy some sublingual B12.

Each dose has 1.7 mg riboflavin; 20mg niacin and; 2mg vit B6, which are equal to 100% of recommended dosage, and; 1,200mcg of B-12, equal to 20,000% of rda.

Does anyone here have experience with vit B12? 20,000% sounds huge but shouldn't be dangerous since its an OTC, so I'm guessing that twice as much would be perfectly safe; even 3x as much, but I don't know.

All I know is that I want something close to the B12 dosage in a standard injection. When I see my doc I plan to ask him to prescribe injectable, but won't see him for another month and don't want to wait that long; I don't have a local doc and couldn't tolerate the pain of an initial visit, so its sublingual B-12 or something better if someone has a better idea.

I really can't lay around like this anymore. not yet anyway. Not while there is anything that might help me get back to work. Who ever heard of being too weak to type?

Soooo, how does 1,200mcg of B12 sound? Close to what I'd get in an injectable? How many mcg would be close to the dosage in an injectable? Is there anything better than sublingual B12?

good question vic. i take a B complex every day and i know it makes a diference in my stamina. i do not know about sublingual though sorry. good luck with it and keep fighting .... joan

to you too, Curious, you honeybunch! Caught me juuuust before bedtime - it's very, very hot and humid now in HK, Summer came last week (seasons change in 3 days, here) making me so tired till I get used to it again!

Thanks for that info, I don't look at that forum as often as I should, but it always impresses me.

And Vic - should have said - Jimmy Buffet would take the B12 anyway

Hi Vicc,

I take 3000 mcg of sublingual B12. I think Melody takes 5000mcg a day.

Rose knows the most of anyone about B12 but I have read that high doses should not hurt you.

I just got approved for injections and the dose there was just upped to 10,000.

Default Very large doses of B12 are safe

Hi all,

B12 has been shown safe, even in the cyanocobalamin (least efficient) form, in 2000-mcg-per-day doses for many decades.

Methylcobalamin is even better, and will help some who cannot be helped by cyanocobalamin. I would have no qualms about taking several 5000 mcg methylcobalamin tablets at once. In fact, there is evidence that a small minority of people need that.

I hope everyone, who has not already, will read my website. It is non-commercial and will not take a long time to explore completely.

I would be wary of infomercials or any kind of hype. There are those who are making lots of extra money misleading (not to mention some being downright dishonest) people.

Oral B12 in the proper dosage has been shown even more effective for many than the usual shots regimen. This was shown in the mainstream years ago, with confirmation from lab results.

Don't fall for hype.

And I would also take a B complex (at a different time of day), because if you are low in one or more of the others, your body cannot use B12 efficiently.

Do read at the vitamin forum here. Loads of great information.
