I sais;"Yes it took the pain away, although I did have "Break through pain" from it, also It makes me sleep(I mean.. a deep sleep) so, I won't be taking this crap again! LOL I never felt this way from morphine when I was given it through an I.V. or through a shot/s dang wel, what do ya all think about this crazy pill.?? Love, Desi P.S. it is time released!

Crazy New Meds Can Sure Suck Sometimes

Desi,
that the Kadien is making you sleep so much. I think Kadien comes in a lower dosage with 20mg being the lowest http://www.kadian.com/pages/default.aspx maybe he can lower it to see how you do and then work you up or try a different med. I am so tolerant to medication most don't work very well on me.. don't know why.. It’s not that I have a bad reaction it just does nothing or not much at all so I tend to be a guinea pig most of the time .. Just my luck I guess.. Anyways the Oxy I am on is 20mg am and 20mg pm and I don't get sleepy. I find that it last only 8 hours and then I start to feel pain again. That's the problem I have so either I need a higher dose or just a breakthrough pain med.
Hang in there, these pain meds need many adjustments and it can take awhile to find the right one for the right person...
Your doc sounds like a receptive guy... I bet he'll work it out for you..
Hey I know what it is you just want to see that Hotti Doctor
Hang in there...
Many Gentle Hugs
Dawn

LOL Dawn, yup.. I want to go back to see that ohhhhhh so "HOT" Doc. I know that the FDA just approved a 10 mg. which is what I probably need. I am allowed to take the capsule apart and sprinkle it on a small amout of applesauce but don't know if I even want to take the chance. Dawn, I have had morphine in my I.V. they also were giving me morphine in the ER (pain shots of it every 2 hrs.) I was high as a kite, but never.. ever like this!!!I heard that oxy's are "potent' aren't they?? If your still having pain, why doesn't your Dr. up your dose? Yes, I will take your advice and say that he does seem pretty receptive and will work it out... Ok.. I just now called him while typing to you LOL.. he said / or rather his sec. said he will be in at two, so he will call me back.. darn, I want to go in now to see him.. LOL shhh.. I'm married too.. i bad huh?? Love, Desi

Hi Desi,
Oh definatley... Shhhh, No more My hubby use to kid me a long time ago when I had this one doc... Mmmm he was eye candy... He would tease me everytime I had my appt.... Anyways to deviate from your original topic...
Yes, the Oxy is potent and it works really well for me at this time.. I am going to discuss having an increase with my doctor at my next appt. I do ok at night while sleeping.. By the time I wake up it's about time for my next dose but it's the day time that gets to me... I had done some reading on the internet and it seems that some people find that it last only 8 ish hours or so and most are prescribed a doseage of 3 doses a day. I'm not sure if anyone here takes there extended release pain meds on a schedule like that.
Anyways, Your a doll and you not bad
Many Hugs
Dawn

Hi Dawn, me again..
Yes, I agree you should call your Dr. and get that upped. My PD did not call yet! Grrrrrrrrrr.. Guess, I will have to sprinkle half of this, I called and here, she said he will call me around 2 well, it is going on 3 This pill is suppossed to last anywhere from 12 to 24 hrs. (I believe it! ) Since your oxy's are not working as well, maybe you can ask for the time released Kadian(Like I have) It go's up to .. I think 200 mg. that's a lot!!! Well, gonna go sprinkle half, as this pain is awful. Love and hugs, Desi

Default Hi

It's me peeking through again, you know that nosey PNer, i was a
ER (truma) murse for 25 years. It took 3 yrs. for me to agree to take
Morphine sr 30mg. at bedtime and in the morning. This is no what they
give you after surgery,it's mild. I know tell that to nsomeone who's
sleepy. If your lucky you will adjjust and not be so tired. There is a 15
mg. for break through pain. You just might need to cut 30 in half until
your body ajusts. We are all so differant in how we react to meds.
Good luck to you where am i ?? Oh i know i going back
to what youmacallit Sue

Default Sue is Right on the money

It takes a few days to maybe a couple weeks for your body to get used to the long acting morphine.

When I first started on it, I slept all the time too. After a couple weeks I couldnt even tell I was taking anything accept for the fact that the pain was reduced by about 50%.

You cant really judge any med in the first few days really, gotta give your body time to adjust. If after say 5 days you are experiencing weird feelings then for sure contact your doctor.

One thing about morphine though... it slows your breathing, and when sleeping is when it is most dangerous. So your right on about contacting your doctor, it just might be you need to titrate up

I agree with Allan... (and the rest) that everyone takes to different tablets differently. I was on SR and PRN morphine for about 18 months? and it was hard to get used to it to begin with. I loved the first week of sleep.... !! It was awesome to actually get some rest!

You can always break them up into smaller doses and take them more reguarly until you accustomise. I know when I first started I came home for a fortnight from boarding school to try and start it gradually at home where I could sleep during the day if I needed to (and I did!).

Love ya and hope that it helps with the pain!!!
