Default Anyone with RSD and Diabetes?

So...I found out last week that I do, in fact, have gestational diabetes with my pregnancy. I picked up my glucose monitor at the pharmacy on Friday but won't start using it until tonight/tomorrow (meeting with the specialist tonight to get all the info about the diabetes).

I'm pretty nervous about testing my blood sugar 4-5 times a day (that's what they told me over the phone when they told me I have the gestational diabetes). I have RSD in both hands and my hands are pretty sensitive to flare ups.

Obviously I will do whatever it takes to take care of my baby and myself, regardless of flare ups...but I wanted to see if anyone else has any experience with diabetes and RSD and if there are any "tips or tricks" to make things easier and help with flare ups. Flare ups aren't good for me and baby either...so I'm just trying to gather what information I can to try and balance all these things to make the next 3 months go by as smoothly as possible.

Thanks.

Hey Catra, so sorry to hear of this complication . I hope it won't change your traveling plans. I don't have any experience with this, but just wanted to chime in and say we are here to support you and your little miracle. ~Lottie

Thanks. It won't affect my travel plans at all. Last night I started the testing...today is my first full day of recording results and eating on the new diet plan. My fingers are not handling the testing very well...but at least I haven't had a full force flare up...just more intense burning pain.

So far all of my tests (2 last night and 3 today so far) have all been well below the maximum range. It's only the first day...but if things continue to be well controlled them I may reduce the number of times I test each day. I'm very active at work and even when I am home I rarely just sit in place for hours on end...when I talked to the doctor yesterday she said that physical activity will help control the sugars...so I might be okay. The glucose test is done over 3 hours when you basically just sit in a chair and wait to be tested...so it's not really the real world.

Fingers crossed that that's the case and I can look forward to a smooth couple of months ahead.
