Default I think I broke my toe

Hi everyone. I hope you are doing okay. I stubbed my toe on my exercise bike two days ago and it hurt alot and then the pain subsided a little. It has since then become swollen and blue. But the swelling and color seem to be becoming less pronounced. Should I go to the dr to get an xray to see if it's broken? I always worry about breaking bones because of fear of my rsd spreading. If anyone has any thoughts on this, I would really appreciate hearing them. I hope you are all having a good weekend. Thanks for listening and take care.

Hi Me,
I broke a toe once and all I know is that there was no way I could walk on it. So I guess that's the way to tell.
I also stubbed a toe once and with a lot of pain I could hobble on it and it turned out only to be sprained.
So it's your call.
Good luck...

I'd go in and get an x-ray. You really need to know one way or another. Luckily, most broken toes don't need any kind of surgery.

Good luck to you and be sure to keep us updated!

Hi there - as I now have trouble with falls, I'm sitting here with 2 broken toes and the tendons holding the 2 toes were ripped. It's the last two toes. Anyways - I waited a week before going to a dr, then podiatrist. He confirmed this: if their is swelling and bruising, with maybe a slight fever about 24 hours later, and it doesn't reduce after a few days, see a doctor.

Mine taped my toes (not much they can do) but also put me in a air cast for 6 weeks. If there is more than a simple break they may need to do more. I'm counting on healing well and not needing surgery. Which is the outcome if the tendons can't heal. Good luck and use your judgement, I was amazed at help the air cast provided. Also scared to know surgery may be needed, too.

So sorry Renee! Darn it, I hate when small things like that happen yet they reaaallly hurt. If pain and swelling are decreased after 2 days, maybe its ok? Feel better soon, Lottie

Thanks Lottie. I know, I hate when those things happen too. Having rsd is enough to deal with and I'm so sick of going to the dr and getting tests done. I didn't think it was broken at first, but it has become swollen and blue and hurts, but not alot. I tried calling the dr today but they are all closed for the holiday. They usually have at least one dr on call but not this weekend. I don't want to sit in the ER either, so I'm going to call again tomorrow. The swelling and blue color has gone down a little but not completely. I know they can't do much if it's broken, but I would feel better getting an xray. I worry about breaking bones because of fear of more rsd spread. I was told by my dr that breaking bones and getting surgery can sometimes cause rsd to spread to I try to avoid both of these things, but lately I have had no luck doing this. Ugh. It's just life I guess. Nothing is easy. Thanks for all of your kind and helpful words. I wish you all a pain free as possible night tonight.

Hey Renee,

So sorry about your toe! If it makes you worry less - I fractured my ankle a few weeks back and so far it hasn't caused worsening pain in that area, thank God.

Have you considered going to an urgent or prompt care facility instead of an ER? That is where I went initially and I was quite impressed with the efficiency and compassion they showed me.

Thanks Tessa. I'm sorry you fractured your ankle but am glad it hasn't caused rsd spread in that area.
I didn't think about an urgent care facility, but if this happens again, I will definitely look into one. That's a great idea.
I am going to the dr today to get an script for an xray.
The swelling and discoloration seem to be fading, but my toe still hurts when I move it. It's the toe next to the pinky toe on my left foot.
It doesn't hurt really bad and maybe just bruised, but I just want to make sure. I'm probably being silly about this, but I worry because I have rsd and don't want it to spread anymore. Though the drs can't really stop that either it seems.
Anyway, I hope you're ankle continues to heal smoothly and quickly without complications. Thanks again for your kindness and great advice. I hope you all have a pain free as possible day today. With love and hugs, Renee.

It turns out my toe is not broken. Yahoo! Some good news for a change. I got an xray today and my toe is fine. I just wanted to let you all know. Thank you again for all of your caring and support. I really appreciate it. I hope you all have a pain free and peaceful night tonight. Soft hugs to all.
