Hello to other suffereres of this dreaded RSD as well as Fibro.
Neuropathic pain is so difficult to treat and all the drugs I have tried thus far have failed. I am trying lyrica(again) and possibly going up to 600-700. Curious to know what others have taken of this drug. Also, have TMJ and am going to go on naprosyn for this recent occurence. In addition I am trying skelaxin (800 mg. 3 times a day). Pills are too large for me to swallow. Cutting them in half still hurts my throat. Manufacturer says no research on crushing them. Pharmacist says its OK. Confusing. LOts of drugs . Oh - also ultram. I got really sick from all of them last week and now am trying one at a time to see what caused my to get sick (throwing up and in bed for 3 days) I had several pain free days so I kept taking them despite mild nausea which gradually got worse. Now, my burning gums are spreading to my front teeth. Injections not helping anymore. TMJ is getting worse also. This combination is crazy. RSD DR. says the ingestion of chloral hydrate which caused this neuropatic mouth pain is because of my RSD. As time marches on this becomes more of a nightmare. I am on the ketamine wait list. Thanks Sydney |

Sydney- many hugs!
I have the RSD in the throat/ mouth thing and it stinks! Still wondering what to do about it. I have combined lyrica with: neurontin, valium, cymbalta, amitriptyline, darvocet and percocet. I have had nausea but not from meds combined (I don't think). I sure hope that all gets worked out for you! What injections have you tried? I know what you are going through, I really do! This is rough and it is hard to keep on going. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. By the way, I love your name! I just wanted to tell you. P.S. I feel that lyrica really helps with my allodynia, as does neurontin (yes I am on both). Without this dose of lyrica when I eat I have allodynia in my mouth/ face enough to make me cry when eating. It has also decreased numbness. I have only found good benefits from lyrica and neurontin (other than dizziness when first starting it). I know others have complete opposite to say about these two, so I am just telling you what helped me. Last edited by InHisHands; 06-01-2007 at 12:29 AM. Reason: edited to add P.S. |

Hi Sydney,
I am sorry to hear your story. I have just done a trial of Lyrica (pregabalin) - only got to 75 mg before adverse effects. I call it "son of Gabapentin". Same family of drugs. The cramping (which is pretty extreme gets much worse ranging to INTOLERABLE) and no other symptoms are reduced. But ...worst of all under Gabapentin or Pregabalin my mood changes to that of an unpredictable cranky & frustrated person. I am already there due to CRPS - don't need help in that department. I become even more difficult to live with for my wife & I get depressive....this is not me. I become so frayed around the edges and I become so depressed that my mind wanders to dark thoughts bordering on self harm.....giving up. That is just NOT the real ME. So....it does not help me but these are precisely the same signs & symptoms I had under Gabapentin. I actually have trouble finding words to describe just how poorly it made me feel. My brain is like scrambled eggs & logical thought is even more difficult than under the effects of CRPS alone. A wise person recently said to me they feel like they have a head full of rocks (they will know who they are) g'day mate. It does nothing to relieve the pain & I cannot tolerate it well enough to titrate the dose. These effects are not all that well known not publicised but when I experienced them, the first time Gabapentin was the only drug we were trialling. I am sorry but I cannot help with interactions without much research. It is intereesting that if you look up the PHARMACOKINETICS of Pregabalin & study the graphs the reponse range is 300 mg approx & it is a fairly flat chart re reponse. ALL drugs that are proposed for me now, I study the pharmacokinetics, drug hal-life etc. It is very interesting reading. Also PHARMACODYNAMICS are worth looking up - some interactions will come to light with study (usually) of these terms with the drugs "real" name. There appears (from memory) to be a ceiling on Lyrica dosage. I'm not trying to treat by any means just suggest but have you tried the Lignocaine (Lidocaine) sore-throat sprays? I'm guessing you have as no-one here hasn't been through the mill of every possibility for relief. It also might help you get a pill down. Hope this helps. Best regards Auberon Quote:
