Having done it a little bit of research, my impression is that community service is considered to be a "sentencing alternative" along with other options such as fines or diversion programs. --You might want to ask if house arrest could be an option.

If the court is willing to waive your community service based upon a doctor's note stating your limitations, than you need to ask your own doctor if there is a scenario where he'd be willing to do so, or you need to find a new doctor that will. (This requirement to provide a letter from your doctor seems to be very common.) It would be unreasonable to provide a generic letter about symptoms RSD/CRPS patients have, because all of our symptoms vary and change. (There are poster's here on NT that work part time and other's that work full time, or run a business, just as there are those that are unable to work.)

BTW, Social Security performs both short form and long form Continuing Disability Reviews based upon a schedule of how likely they believe your chance for improvement is. If you were required to undergo a long form CDR, it is comparable to the original application process. If you have a doctor that is not supportive of the fact that you are unable to work, you could have a problem retaining your benefits.

If it's a matter of your doctor being unsure of the extent of your limitations, you could volunteer to undergo RFC testing. This is often performed by a physical therapist.
