Default problems with meds

Hey guys,
I was wondering has anyone every had more pain and swelling when on pain medication? I was on gabapentin (I recently stopped taking it) and when I was on it my right arm became super sensitive, swollen, discolored and painful. Has this ever happened to any of you on any medications? My body is very sensitive to medications, but this is the first pain medication that has done this. I attached pictures of my normal left hand and the swollen RSD hand, the color change was much more prevalent in person. It has made me a little hesitant to go on something new since at thus time I was only on 100mg of it. Any information and support would be great! Thanks

Hi Spoonie,
It looks more like a progress that this monster takes. I too take Gabapentin and also go through changes but I don't refer them to med. It maybe your body is more sensitive than mine but stopping the meds doesn't sound like a good idea if they help with the pain.
I'm just saying...

Hi Spoonie,

Gabapentin can cause water retention which could be responsible. That was a low dose you were on but then again I was only on 300mg at bedtime and I lost five pounds when I went off of it. My foot was noticeably less puffy afterwards...
Hope you are doing alright. LP

Hey Russell and littlepaw,
Russell: Yeah it could be that, I just thought it might be the meds because it started happening when I went on them. Now that I am off of them, the pain is slightly better but my arm isn't swelling to this size anymore. That is why I thought it could be the meds, but ultimately, I was getting to much of the other side effects as well like extreme dizziness and blurred vision that I couldn't get my work done so I had to get off of them because the pros were out weighted by the con's. Thanks

Littlepaw: hmm I hadn't heard of that being a side effect. That could have been it. Thanks for the info

I hadn't either. My neuro mentioned that some people puff up on it which certainly fit my experience.
