Default Odd skin sensation

Does anyone else ever have their CRPS limb/area feel like the skin was being slashed or ripped open?

I don't really know the best way to explain it but there are times I look at my foot or feet and expect to see the tops of them all torn up. It's almost like if someone had super long sharp fingernails and heated them up and pushed really hard while dragging them across my foot.

Sorry if that was a little graphic but that's the best description I could come up with. I just didn't know if anyone else shared this wonderful experience. Thanks!

I have had this, along with the feeling that water was running down my RSD leg. I was afraid to tell anyone out of fear that they would think I had lost my mind. Since I started taking neurontin and LDN these and the electrical shocks have abated.

Weird nervy symptoms sure seem to be a part of this beast. Have you tried any topicals to the area? lidocaine or a combo? I have a ketoprofen, gabapentin, ketamine cream that is helpful. Since the sensation is cutaneous something like that might help.

Don't worry about the description. It gives a better idea of your experience. I used to describe my foot as feeling like it was made of a thousand pieces of broken glass shoved in a neoprene sock. Treatment and time has improved that thank God!

sending hugs,

hi nursekins. i get all kinds of weird feelings from my rsd like the one you described. i also get burning, pins and needles, water dripping down my skin, coldness, heat, cramping and the feeling like someone is stabbing my skin. some of the feelings come and go but the burning stabbing pain are a constant in my body. the other sensations jump around my body to different areas. the meds i take like gabapentin and pain killers that my pm dr prescribe help alleviate these kinds of pains and symptoms and i was also prescribed voltaren gel which helps too. maybe you might want to ask you dr if this might work for you too. sending healing thoughts your way.

My RSD pain changes from hour to hour, from day to day. It makes this disease all the more frustrating for us and our providers.

I think my PT wonders about me and my "moving" pain. One day my foot is just as Littlepaw describes-"a ...sock full of broken glass" and on other days localized to my ankle or heel.

Thank you all so much for making me feel "normal".

I have a compound cream of ketamine, lido and gaba. Unfortunately my WC insurance has decided not to cover it any longer so I have been using it only when I really need it.

The burning pain is constant but just for fun my body likes to toss in shock-like pain, pins and needles, and the wonderful ripping/tearing pain. Sometimes it feels like this is the condition that keeps on giving.

That is howu RSD presents too.... Burning and crushing all the time and random weird sensations like wAter dripping, ants biting, pins, etc. it's a very strange experience.

I have described it as Freddy Kruger ripping through my calf. Then there's the Jolly Green Giant squeezing my ankle/leg. The crazy "Oh my Gawd! Is there wet quicksand in my sock???" And shooting hot/cold mixed together...like there was a fire lit to my leg and someone puts ice on it. When my 'pins & needles' get bad, I say there's leprechauns in there stabbing me.

I love pain/sensation descriptors! They're my fave

Thank you I needed a laugh!

I tried explaining to my niece what my feet and legs felt like without scaring a 5 year-old. So I told her it felt like when your foot falls asleep and you get the pins and needles feeling. Her response was priceless, "I know so it feels like polka-dots". I couldn't help it I started laughing. Sometimes when I am having a bad pain day I just think of polka-dots and feel a little bit better.

Awww. There is a little shop in the town I moved from called "Polka Dots & Happy Thoughts"... sounds like a plan to me!
