Ugh, so sorry. I hope the antibiotic kicks it fast. I'm sure you are frustrated but I am glad they figured it out so soon.

So it isn't infected but the incision split so it isn't healing well. I even questione doc at 10 days when he took stitches out but he said it was fine. I am still completin antibiotics and he applied a honey based ointment monday. See him again next Tuesday for next steps. Good news is he is board certified wound specialist but he thinks it will be long process hopefully no additional surgery.
Back to non weight bearing and still can't work so very frustrated... Incision on toe is still sensation but he is not concerned. Still no swelling or color changes. Anyone have other wound care tips I have upped my protein, zinc, vit c and am keeping it moist. Totally stir crazy though. |

It sounds like you are doing everything possible. Such a bummer you are going through this when otherwise you are getting better. I'm sure it is an aggravation on many levels.
How big was your incision? Is it affecting your being able to do range of motion? I hope you heal up soon!

Big toe incision is just about inch. Top of foot incision is probably just about 2 inches at least one inch split. Problem is he did incision over the previous one so tissue was already thin. He is a little concerned.
I can still do ankle pumps and bend big toe. But can't wear anything on it any friction causes more irritation. He said it's hardest place on body for incision to heal. Ugh. The excellent news is the doctors finally have convinced me it is not rsd. This site has been so supportive and helpful I hope it is OK to still post some updates. Thank you all for your advice, thoughts, and prayers. You are all in my thoughts for more good days than bad and continued research and advancement for crps. |

gabapentin helps with my burning pain from rsd too. i take 600mg 4x daily along with a strong pain med my pm dr prescribes to me. i didn't start at this dosage but had to bump it up along the years due to increased rsd pain and spread. the side effecs a bit rough for the first few weeks but then they subside a bit. some of the side effects are dizziness, memory loss and lethargy. but they do subside a bit in time. i
hope that if you do bump up the dosage (if your dr okays of course) that you feel better soon. soft hugs.

Lucky for me the burning pain has stopped. I just have the incision pain where it opened I can't stand having anything rub on it which means I am non weight bearing. My big toe incision has some sensativity still but it is directly on the incision. I have been putting vit e on that one. I have a honey product on the open incision it seems to helping. But of course recovery is much slower than I wsnt..

I am so, so glad the burning pain has stopped and they don't think it is CPRS. Those incisions are going to be sensitive for a while. That's normal, but geez we get traumatized by this stuff don't we? Then even normal pain gets worrisome.
Watch for VIT E reaction if you haven't used it a lot topically before. Some people have skin sensitivity to it. Hang in there. I know it is frustrating waiting on an incision to close. I had a recalcitrant one in my sole. There ain't nothing to do but wait.

Another update my opwn incision isn't healing as fast as doc wants so Wednesday it is back under the knife for me so he can clean and stitch closed to hopefully cut my healing time in half. Incision is so sore I can't wear surgical shoe since it rubs. I have been off work 6 weeks and will be off another 2 after surgery but I guess that is better than another 4-6.
