Default Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago

Growing up in the Chicago suburbs, this was not my first trip into the city. My brother & his partner actually have an apartment on Lake Shore Drive relatively close to RIC. Since it's a second/vacation place for them, chances are I could stay there if I need to have extended/daily therapy. My difficulty is it is a rather upscale place and I'm so not upscale!!

Anyway...I did experience a few 'firsts' today nonetheless. My daughter & I took the train into the city and then we got an UBER! This was our first Uber trip and it was AWESOME! The driver stowed my walker in the trunk and just chit-chatted the whole way there. I felt like a friend was taking us to the appointment.

At RIC (another 'first'), everyone we interacted with, I do mean EVERYONE, greeted us with their name and told us what their job is there. Registration was easy. I was offered to either stand on the scale or tell them my last known weight (lol), I opted to get on the scale. Funny thing happens when you sop taking a medication that causes weight gain...you stop gaining! Granted, I'm not losing but after gaining 8 pounds in 2 weeks, I'm okay with not gaining more!

I saw Dr. Wysocki. She was amazing! In the first 5 minutes you knew the difference between how much a physiatrist understands vs your everyday run of the mill PCP. She called a script in for lidocaine gel and sent a referral to RIC's PM.

We took an Uber back to the train station and the train home. I was beat but still moving...very very slowly.

Oh! I also received an email from my school...I received a presidential scholarship for my final clinical exam! It doesn't cover the entire amount, but it helps! Now, to get strong enough to provide patient care for 3 days....
