Sleep Update

I hate when threads don't reach a logical conclusion so I'll post an update here.

I went in for additional sleep tests and the conclusion is idiopathic hypersomnia and period limb movement disorder.

Treatment: for now, they have found my Iron to be almost nothing. My Ferritin is nearly nothing, Iron is too low, TIBC % saturation is too low, Hemoglobin is too low. B12 - through the roof high. Monday I go in for an Iron transfusion which the Doctor is super nervous about, which is making me nervous. Periodic Limb Movement disorder should be helped by bringing up the Iron levels. That leaves the Idiopathic Hypersomnia. Great, another idiopathic thing. I failed the narcotic trial, that didn't work. Gabapentin apparently could help. Otherwise it is stimulants. I don't really like that and I can't take them right now anyway. It's not really a conclusion but it's what we came up with for now.

Hi Theodora,

Thanks for the update. I am glad you pursued the workup. It sounds like that sure paid off. I hope the iron transfusion brings improvement. Hopefully you will get a burst in energy level too!

I am sending thoughts of healing and comfort. May your procedure be smooth and succesful.

Don't ya just love the word idiopathic! I know little about your condition, but being that low on iron can't be good. I hope your transfusion goes well and helps regulate your system. Best wishes. ~mac
